An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist, to join our fantastic NHS Trust based in Buxton.

The Occupational Therapist in post will be working within a community adult mental health service, providing specialist assessment and treatment to service users with a range of mental health conditions.

In this role you will assess, implement and develop an OT treatment programme according to the person's diagnosis and identified needs.

Main duties of the job

You will be able to manage a diverse caseload and work closely with the multi-disciplinary team, giving you the opportunity to work with CPNs, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Employment Specialists and Non - Medical Prescribers.

You will utilise the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) assessments that are used trust wide and will receive support and training in this.

You will be involved in service development and quality improvement projects as we develop OT pathways across the organisation, build links with our partnership organisations in the community, develop our Individual Placement Support service and grow our peer support services as we embed the Community Mental Health Framework across our teams.

You will be part of the wider Occupational Therapy Community in Derbyshire Healthcare, contributing to CPD events, practice development opportunities and workforce development. You will be involved in recruitment of staff and the development of our support staff

The provision of specialist OT clinical advice on the assessment and intervention of clients occupational and functional needs. Interventions provided will be within the practitioners sphere of competency and within their major skill set, the practitioner is expected to liaise with colleagues who may be more experienced within a particular field as and when required.

Management of a caseload, using OT evidence based, client centred Recovery principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. Assessment and prescription of assistive equipment as required.

Development of collaborative partnership working with our external partners within the neighbourhood for example CCGs, voluntary sector, social care, education and employment services You will play a pivotal role in this work alongside our partner agencies and people with lived experience

Design, development and facilitation of recovery focussed group work, both internally and in partnership with partner organisations.

Supervision and support of fellow OT members of the team. You will be offered regular management supervision from your service manager andprofessional/clinical supervision from the Occupational Therapy Lead to support you with this.

Support and develop student placements and newly qualified OTs on ourpreceptorship programme within the service and across the workforce. Provide regular student placements/shadowing opportunities. You will liaise with our AHP Practice Learning Facilitator and AHP Preceptorship Facilitator regularly.

Support and promotion of our IPS service Work Your Way whose Employment Specialists are embedded in our CMHTs.

Involvement in trust wide OT service development and innovation

Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential
  • BSc Honours in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Portfolio evidence of CPD, reflection, self-motivation, team leadership skills and EBP
Desirable
  • L'Apple Accreditation
Experience/Skills Essential
  • Demonstrate post registration clinical expertise (this would normally equate to a minimum of 2 years)
  • Post-registration expertise in an adult mental health setting
  • Ability to apply and promote OT skills, including carrying out specialised occupational assessments, setting clear occupational goals and facilitating a wide variety of therapeutic interventions
  • Knowledge and experience of clinical supervision
  • The ability to manage own and other's workload flexibly
  • Analytical skills involving skilled interpretation, comparison and reasoned judgement in complex situations
  • Flexible planning and organisational skills required for the formulation and adjustment of a broad range of therapeutic activities and programmes within an occupational therapy and multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of ordering equipment and adapting environments
Desirable
  • Knowledge of research techniques and experience of clinical audit
  • Post-registration expertise working with Older Adults
