The provision of individual psychodynamic psychotherapy to the clients of the City & Hackney Specialist Psychotherapy Service. The post resides within the Psychodynamic treatment Pathway.

Main duties of the job

-Provision of individual psychodynamic psychotherapy to clients of the service.

-To provide screening and assessment to the referrals received by the service.

-To attend clinical supervision and other meetings, for example, assessment workshop.

-To provide group psychotherapy as appropriate and negotiated within the Psychodynamic Pathway.

-To provide trainees clinical supervision as required.

-To provide time-limited individual psychotherapy.

Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential
  • oCore Health professional qualification (Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, and Psychology) or a demonstrable working knowledge of NHS values, clinical structures in secondary mental health care, referral pathways and the roles of NHS professionals.
  • oProfessional registration appropriate to own discipline (e.g. NMC, HCPC).
  • oAccredited training as an individual psychodynamic psychotherapist.
Desirable
  • oTraining in clinical Supervision & Consultation skills.
  • oTraining in Mentalisation-Based Therapy
  • oTraining in shorter-term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy treatment model such as DIT or IPT.
Experience Essential
  • oExperience of providing specialist psychological assessments and interventions to patients with complex problems and a range of clinical presentations, including complex trauma.
  • oExperience of ensuring equality of access and acceptable intervention to diverse populations.
  • oExperience of working with a wide variety of patient groups across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity.
  • oExperience of planning and exercising clinical responsibility for patients' psychological care and treatment within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
  • oExperience of work in a multicultural setting, including working with interpreters. Experience of developing and delivering culturally acceptable interventions.
Desirable
  • oExperience of co-production with service users in the development and delivery of services.
  • oExperience of continuous improvement in service delivery and development
Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • oSkills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment including the use of theoretical models to analyze information and to develop formulations upon which to base choice of treatment.
  • oKnowledge of the theory and practice of group interventions.
  • oUnderstanding of the basic principles underlying psychological therapy and knowledge of clinical applications of the model(s).
Desirable
  • oWorking knowledge of the practices and approaches of other key disciplines, professions and agencies involved in the care and management network, including medical, employment, social, educational and criminal justice systems.
