Neurodevelopmental Lead Nurse/Non-Medical prescriber CAMHS LD
  • Following internal staff changes, the CAMHS LD Team are seeking an experienced registered nurse/non-medical prescriber to join this diverse and innovative multi-disciplinary team to lead our neuro developmental pathways.
  • The post holder will work alongside the Nurse consultant, consultant psychiatrist & the NMP/senior charge nurse, undertaking responsibility for ND assessment, diagnosis & initiation of treatment, including medication
  • CAMHS LDT is a nationally recognised service renowned for its innovative & flexible approach in meeting the complex needs of children and young people (CYP) with moderate to profound Intellectual Developmental Disability, presenting with mental ill health and associated behavioural difficulties, ADHD, ASD, complex disrupted sleep patterns, Tics, & physical health problems impacting upon these.
  • Our CAMHS LDT was the 2nd CAMHS service nationally to employ nurse prescribers & this role has continued to grow & develop within the team, enabling a consistent & holistic care package to be provided for the CYP referred to us
  • Staff development is a priority & opportunity to build upon skills & knowledge that will enhance service provision is actively encouraged.

Working hours will be mainly Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm however, flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays is essential when clinical need dictates this.

Own transport or a suitable alternative is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • As the ND lead Nurse/non-medical prescriber, the post holder will hold an ND prescribing caseload, in addition to undertaking assessment, diagnosis and treatment of CYP of neurodevelopmental and/or sleep problems.
  • Assessment of physical health and monitoring in line with safe prescribing will be undertaken, plus behavioural assessment and input as appropriate, including direct work with CYP and families.
  • The post holder will work within the outpatient service, undertaking initial assessments of new referrals alongside MDT colleagues, plus co-working with colleagues within the MDT as required.
  • As a senior nurse, provision of clinical supervision and line management of staff will also be undertaken in accordance with NMC and trust policies.
  • The post holder will take part in the out of hours CAMHS LD Senior Nurse on call rota, providing telephone advice and guidance to professionals from wider CAMHS and other health and emergency services. On-call cover includes evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

  • The CAMHS LDT is a nurse led multidisciplinary service, providing assessment, treatment and direct intervention for CYP presenting with a moderate to Profound Intellectual Developmental Disability with mental ill health problems, co-morbid diagnoses and high risk complex behaviours of concern.
  • We work within the framework of Positive Behaviour Support ensuring that all intervention/treatment is appropriate and as least restrictive as possible. Alongside this, within our prescribing, we also follow the principles of the STOMP/STAMP policies to avoid inappropriate and/or over prescribing of medications for children and vulnerable people.
  • We also seek to avoid inpatient admissions via our outreach service undertaking extended day patient assessment and input within Rothesay and the patient home.
  • CAMHS LDT sits within LPT FYPC/LD directorate aligned with wider CAMHS services.
  • LPT provides a range of community health, mental health and learning disability services for people of all ages. Delivered through over 100 settings and serving over 1 million people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Nurse Level 1
  • Dip higher Ed, Degree or Equivalent
  • Post Registration Qualification in Non Medical Prescribing - V300
  • Evidence of continuing professional development within the last 12 months
  • Hold an NMC approved mentoring qualification
  • Leadership or Management Qualification or willingness to work towards

Experience Essential
  • Significant post registration experience as a senior nurse in relevant area of practice and non-medical prescribing
  • Demonstrates motivation and commitment to providing high quality patient centre nursing care and patient education
  • Experience of working and prescribing in the area of ADHD, ASD and sleep
Desirable
  • Experience of resource management including staff and budget management
  • Experience of working with children/adults with neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Experience of assessing / diagnosing ADHD
