We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic full time Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join Camden and Islington's newly developed Hospital Division. The Hospital Division comprises of inpatient wards for working age adults who require acute treatment or rehabilitation and wards which specialise in the care of older adults. The post-holder will work on one of the adult acute inpatient wards.

Working closely with the multi-disciplinary team, the post-holder will provide occupational therapy assessment and intervention as part of the acute clinical pathway. The post holder will work with OTs, Arts Therapists and Activity Workers to deliver and oversee a therapeutic programme within the service. Supervision and mentoring will be provided by Band 6 OT colleague and the post holder will have responsibility for supporting and supervising a Band 3 ward Activity Worker.The successful candidate will be expected to ensure that their practice meets the requirements of this clinical group, is in keeping with current evidence base and meets HCPC standards.

The Trust wide Occupational Therapy service supports training and regular CPD forums, providing the opportunity to network with colleagues and promote professional development.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will ensure that their practice meets the requirements of this clinical group, and assess the needs of service users with complex mental and physical health needs. This includes falls risk minimisation work and the issuing and provision of equipment, aids and minor adaptations.

The post-holder will ensure that their practice is in keeping with current evidence based practices, in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics., and will work with OTs, Arts Therapists and activity workers to provide a comprehensive treatment programme for service users.

The post holder is expected to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with other staff members characterised by trust, mutual respect, and open, honest communication.

The post-holder will have supervisory responsibility for junior staff and student practitioners working in the unit. They will receive supervision and mentoring from Band 6 OT.

Although staff are allocated initially to work in one specific ward, all appointments are made to the Hospital Division, and there will be opportunity for further skill development within the Inpatient wards. Clinical Responsibilities

• To undertake occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational and skill deficits. This may include ADL, work, leisure, community skills and home visit assessments.
• To actively involve patients in identifying their needs and goals and provide a treatment plan that is appropriate to them as part of the multi-disciplinary care plan.
• To plan and carry out individual and group interventions in appropriate settings using graded and meaningful activities to meet patients needs and achieve their goals.

Supervision

• To provide day to day support and regular supervision to ward activity workers.

Management

• To undertake management of projects as delegated by senior staff within own area of competence.

Professional Development

• To participate in the Preceptorship programme as required.
• To actively participate in own supervision and appraisal process using the KSF.
• To utilise opportunities to develop skills and knowledge, apply critical appraisal and keep up to date with current practise in the field.
• To support other Occupational Therapists in the education and training of other professionals and visitors to the department.
• To participate in education programmes for client/service groups.
• To support health promotion and health education initiatives within the locality and within the community directorate.
• To comply with all mandatory training i.e. fire, PMVA, CPR & AED, manual handling and safeguarding.
• To maintain and update a Continuing Professional Development portfolio.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

• Degree or Post-Graduate Qualification in Occupational Therapy
• Professional Registration with HCPC

Experience Essential

• Experience of working in in-patient mental health environment
