We are delighted to have developed a new post in Mid Essex where the postholder will be able to enjoy a variety of clinical work in the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service.

The EIP team, is a friendly MDT team working in the community of Mid Essex (including Chelmsford, Braintree, Maldon and Halstead) providing evidence based services in innovative ways to people experiencing a first episode of psychosis. There are a number of psychological services staff in the team who enjoy: the clinical work; the team work; the autonomy; and also the career development opportunities. We have links across 6 EIP teams in Essex and are also connected with the new At Risk Mental State (ARMS) services now also being developed across the county.

We have a number of recruitment possibilities in EIP, so this post can be offered as the 0.5wte part time post as advertised, or may also be appealing for someone looking for more hours than advertised, working within our EIP and ARMS services. Our psychological services staff are offered and take up a great range of CPD including developing individual and therapeutic training e.g. varied Family Interventions for Psychosis, CBTp, EMDR to name a few.

We also welcome applications from newly qualified Clinical Psychologists, offering Band 7/8a preceptorships.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide psychological assessments of service users, utilising information from health, social care, education and employment contacts, as well as direct contact with the service user and their carers.
  • To formulate and implement plans for psychological treatment and/ or management of the service user's mental health problems based on appropriate conceptual frameworks and employing methods of efficacy.
  • To be responsible for delivering evidenced-based psychological interventions.
  • To be responsible for planning, setting up and delivering evidence-based group psychological interventions.
  • To deliver consultation, supervision and training to other members of the MDT.

About us

The EIP team is made up of Nurses, OTs, Social Workers, Support Workers, Peer Support Workers, Psychiatry, Clinical Psychologists, CAPs, Trainees and Assistant Psychologists. The NICE guidance recommends that those experiencing a first episode of psychosis be offered CBTp and a Family Intervention. The post holder will be required to work across the Mid Essex locality including Chelmsford, Braintree, Maldon and Halstead.

Person Specification Education/ Qualifications/ Knowledge Essential
  • Professional qualification in the form of a Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
  • HCPC Registered.
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in written reports, letters and other health correspondence, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Experience of working in adult mental health and with complex and serious mental health problems
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups.
Desirable
  • Post accreditation training in additional specialised areas of psychological practice e.g. CBT, CBTp or other.
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists/psychological therapists
  • Experience of working with psychosis.
Skills /Experience Essential
  • Literate in IT/Computer Skills
  • Good oral communication skills based on fluency on the English language
  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical or counselling psychologist for a minimum of two years.
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in-patient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of frequently highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
Desirable
  • Demonstrate further specialist training and/or experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a specialist clinical psychologist or other named therapist over a minimum of 18 months, or an alternative agreed by the Director of Psychological Services.
  • Experience of supervision of others.
