An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative OT to lead and develop the CTM UHB's Paediatric OT Service. This post provides a unique opportunity for an OT with significant experience of working with children, young people and families (CYPF) as well as colleagues in health, education and social care. The postholder will also be expected to partner with CYPF the co-design of new services, as well as ensuring an evidence-based and efficient service.

We are an innovative team committed to delivering high quality clinical care to the children and young people who access our service. The service is developing new ways of working to meet increasing demands and the successful applicant will be a part of this exciting transformation. The successful candidate will meet the criteria as defined in the personal specification for the role and must demonstrate the ability to work flexibly and creatively in both the leadership and clinical aspects of the role. The team also works closely with the Local Education Authority, OTs within Social Services, and MDT members.

The successful applicant will need to be a team player, who is flexible in approach, resourceful and keen to demonstrate the distinctive contribution and added value that an OT can offer. You will need excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in achieving wellbeing and positive health outcomes for children and young people.

Main duties of the job

Inherent within the role is a responsibility for
  • Undertaking all aspects of clinical and managerial responsibilities as an autonomous practitioner for a specialist team of OTs and support staff
  • Providing a client-centred, evidence-based service to children and young people CYP with both complex and varied needs.
  • Training and development of staff in OT, other disciplines and other agencies
  • Taking a robust clinical and strategic lead in this highly specialised area within the OT service, the wider disciplinary team (MDT) and partners e.g. community nursing, Local Education Authorities, 3rd sector, independent sector
  • Managing a small, highly specialised caseload of CYP with complex needs including diagnoses of a developmental and neurological nature
  • Leading in service development, utilising a strong evidence- base and innovations in practice to ensure best management of resources and best outcomes for children and young people, and their families/carers
  • Representing the OT service, the profession and service users within the wider health, social, and political community, including All Wales and National Forums
  • Being professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of individuals in your care and staff Interpreting all relevant policies and procedures for the service
  • Developing a credible and professional contribution to paediatric services, through maintaining professional status and by engaging in continuing professional development

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Post graduate training in clinical education Evidence of commitment to CPD
  • Evidence of ability to work at masters level in field of Paediatrics and/or management qulaifications
  • Pst graduate training in a Paed modality
  • Specialist knowledge of professional assessments and intereventions related Paeds
  • Knowledge and understanding EBP and current drivers
  • Knowledge and application of clinical governance and risk managment
  • Evidnece analysis if critical/analyical thought - ethical issues
  • Knowledge of procedural and legal requirements (CP)
Desirable
  • Knoweldge of standardised and non standardised assessments
  • Interest and involevment quality, audit, SD
  • Partenrship working
Experience Essential
  • Extensive post graduate clinical experience in specialist area/leadership related to post.
  • Evidence of strong clinical/team leadership.
