Swift Ward are seeking an energetic and highly motivated Band 5 Staff Nurse who would either like to start their career as a preceptorship nurse on an inpatient unit or would like a fresh challenge working in a acute setting.
Swift Ward is a 18 bedded acute mental health treatment ward offering acute mental health care to adults, The ward provides mixed sex accommodation and has a multi-disciplinary team including psychologists, occupational therapy, recreational workers as well as the nursing and medical team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work on Swift Ward Inpatient Unit, The unit provides mental health support and care to service users experiencing mental health crisis. They will be a key member of the Inpatient Team acting as the charge nurse for the unit and be responsible / primary nurse for a designated group of patients and will be responsible for the assessment of their needs and for the planning, implementing and evaluation of the care provided to meet those needs.
They will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team liaising closely with other agencies within and outside the ward/unit. The post holder will be leading on shifts on the ward and provide clinical supervision to junior staff members. Excellent communication and relationship management skills are essential to this post. Act as lead nurse for a defined group of patients. Act as the staffnurse for the unit, assess plan, implement and evaluate the care provided especially with regard to identifying and managing risk. Treat patients with fairness and respect, maintaining confidentiality appropriately.
Assist the inpatients manager, the team and charge nurses in maintaining standards of care. To be fully involved in ward rounds, handovers and other meetings where patient care is discussed and reviewed as required. To expedite and participate in the assessment, admission, transfer and discharge of patients according to local guidelines and standards.

In addition to managing the clinical aspects of being a Band 5 Staff Nurse, the post holder will take an active part in the assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for service users in collaboration with inpatient multi-disciplinary services. Liaising with colleagues and carers, ensuring they are fully aware of all aspects of a service users care and treatment.
The post holder will have effective communication skills and be able to contribute towards patient recovery and wellbeing.
You will be able to identify individuals' care needs. Planning, implementing and evaluating care plans and risk assessments in collaboration with other teams and professionals. Maintaining lines of communication with all departments and staff involved in a service users care. Reporting on progress and effectiveness to the appropriate MDT.
Participating in ward rounds and handovers, etc. Preparing reports as required. Supporting charge nurses and team leader in daily running of the service.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- RMN\Dip (Mental)
- Live registration with NMC
- Mentorship & Preceptorship after one year
- Appropriate post registration qualification
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
- Detailed knowledge of legislation and practise guidelines concerning Adult Acute Mental Health
- Ability to develop professional relationships with staff, service users and all other stakeholders
- Ability to lead and motivate others
- Provision of effective clinical supervision
- Excellent communications skills - written, verbal and able to complete computer data entry and recording
- Good team worker, able to demonstrate organisational skills
- Awareness of budgetary needs of the service
- Ability to participate in training of others - students and other team members
- Working with people detained under the Mental Health Act (1983)
