Southampton CAMHS have an exciting opportunity opening for the role of a qualified CBT therapist or a specialist clinical psychologist to work specifically within the Eating Disorders service.

In CAMHS, there is often a high level of complexity in the children and young people we see. The role will involve offering assessments and specialist, evidence-based interventions to children, young people and their families within the Eating disorders service.

The successful applicant will be working within an established eating disorder team alongside the lead Consultant Psychiatrist, Senior Clinical Psychologist, Mental health nurses, therapists, support workers and Assistant Psychologist to deliver bespoke care packages according to need. This will include a combination of clinic work and home visiting as well and building strong relationships with local tier 4 providers to ensure consistency of care for those young people requiring periods of hospital admission.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing a highly skilled and specialist CBT Intervention on both an individual and group basis as appropriate using techniques and knowledge gained through experience, self-development, and evidence-based practice. The post-holder will provide specialist treatment and assessment within their professional sphere of expertise in eating disorders.

They will ensure that a high quality, timely, accessible, and evidence-based service is available to all service users who need it throughout the eating disorders team.

The post holder will work autonomously in carrying out therapeutic work based on clear theoretical concepts and the application of related techniques and will be responsible for providing assessment, case management and CBT intervention to children, young people and their families / carers.

Alongside delivery of their specialism the post holder will contribute to the delivery of the core roles of the Specialist CAMHS team such as the delivery of initial assessments, assessments as part of the self-harm rota, duty and risk management.

The post holder will participate in the review of clinical policies and guidelines relevant to the area and support and implement changes to practice; liaise with other organisations and professionals to promote communication and good practice; be able to undertake audit activity and supervision to other staff in service area/care group.

Job description Job responsibilities

To provide an efficient, effective, comprehensive and specialist psychological service for children and adolescents with eating disorders, their carers/parents, and families

To contribute to multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with eating disorders, their carers/parents, and families

To undertake a range of highly specialist clinical work, urgent assessment work, parenting support and specialist cases.

To provide extensive expert supervision and consultation on eating disorders cases to other multi-disciplinary staff. To contribute to audit and research

To actively engage in treatment and outcome monitoring, including the use of normed measures associated with CYP-IAPT

To work in clinical practice, making use of supervision, within the overall framework and the Trust's policies and procedures

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Equivalent
Desirable
  • Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (BABCP) (or eligible for)
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working with children & young people with mental health difficulties and their families
  • Experience of giving and receiving supervision
  • Experience of working within a Tier 3 Specialist Children's Mental Health Service
  • Experience of working across a variety of different care settings, e.g., primary care, residential
  • Experience in the training, learning and development of others
  • Experience of involving users of the service in a meaningful way in shaping service initiatives and delivery
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency team
  • Having a leadership role within a team
  • Experience of working in a constantly changing environment
  • Post Registration clinical experience in CBT
  • Experience of treating a wide range of psychological disorders using CBT including Eating disorders
