Profession
Psychiatrist, CAMHS nurse
Grade
Consultant
Hours
Full Time
We wish to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Locum Consultant Psychiatrist who is passionate about crisis work and ensuring safe and effective interventions are delivered to a high risk population. The crisis pathway comprises nurses, clinical psychology, and other professionals in CAMHS. The Consultant will work with all the disciplines of the team, and with external agencies within the child's network, to provide crisis assessments, consultation, advice and support to ensure the best possible clinical outcomes for young people presenting in Crisis.

The crisis and liaison team work collaboratively with borough adolescent and crisis pathways to support those young people known to the service who present in crisis via A&E, as well as support the most vulnerable young people through a telephone support. The crisis team works with young people for the duration of their crisis, and for existing patients, this will be done in collaboration with their existing care coordinator in the Community CAMHs team.

Main duties of the job

The crisis service provides integrated, high-quality assessment, support and interventions in and out of hours. It works closely with the Adolescent teams (who lead on the borough basedcrisis pathways) and borough based clinical teams across the three boroughs, as well as with tier 4 (inpatient services) which are provided by the South London Partnership. The crisis team is multidisciplinary, and is supported by a team manager, consultant nurse, consultant clinical psychologist and a full time Consultant Psychiatrist (this post).

Assessment in the team consists of individual and family assessment. The outcome from the assessment might be admission to a CAMHS in-patient unit, an individual piece of work and safety planning around an episode of mental ill-health, collaborative work alongside the Community CAMHS Care Coordinator, or working with partner organisations to facilitate appropriate multi-agency support and intervention for the young person. The nature of the work of the consultant psychiatrist in the team is to provide crisis assessments and interventions, supervision and consultancy to non-medical colleagues and clinical leadership including taking a lead role in managing the interface with CAMHS and hospital departments
