Cornwall CAMHS is offering a new Developmental Post for Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy. The successful applicant will initially be employed at Band 7, progressing into a Band 8a positionafter two years. Progression will be based on the successful completion of competencies. This post will be based in thein the West of the county, providing Child Psychotherapy to the Penzance and Redruth Locality Teams.

The successful applicant will be well supported in their development by senior Child Psychotherapists within the service. This will include the development of a set of individual competencies, agreed in consideration of their current level of experience and the step up to a Band 8a job description. Applications from Trainee Child Psychotherapists due to qualify in July 2023 are welcome.

As a service, we are actively seeking to develop our therapeutic offer for children and young people, with exciting research taking place into how we can use our resource-rich natural environment to support our work.

We are looking for an ACP registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist with a broad range of experience, including work with children, young people and families who present with a high level of complexity and require skilled and multi-layered assessments and intervention.

Main duties of the job

To provide a range of specialist Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy interventions including Short Term Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (STPP), medium and long-term interventions, as well as State of Mind Assessments, observations, and inter-agency consultations. There may also be potential to offer more intensive psychotherapeutic work (twice or thrice weekly sessions) where clinical need arises.

An active presence and thoughtful contribution to the life of the locality team will be an important part of the Child Psychotherapist's role.The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the generic clinical work of the team including assessment, care co-ordination and the local CAMHS duty rota. They will attend multi-disciplinary team meetings regularly and provide supervision to colleagues who are interested in psychoanalytic thinking. The successful candidate will be encouraged to become involved in the team's support of Trainee and Assistant Child Psychotherapists as they work towards progression to Band 8a.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential

• Post-graduate doctoral level training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
• Current ACP registration as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist
• Professional qualification - Essential, Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy training (CAPT) to Masters or Doctoral level or equivalent experience
• Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the Association of Child Psychotherapists

Desirable

• Managerial or supervisory responsibilities

Skills and Aptitude Essential

• Skills in training preparation and delivery to a wide range of staff groups
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
• Knowledge of other professional and therapeutic approaches to children, young people and their families gained through a relevant Degree and Professional Qualification obtained prior to Child Psychotherapy training (e.g., Nursing, Social Work, Teaching, OT).
• Knowledge of and skills in assessing risk and contributing to diagnoses. Specialist skills in infant observation.

Desirable

• Additional training in one or more specialised areas of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy practice

Knowledge and Abilities Essential

• Experience as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, working with children in either clinical or community settings.
• Experience of working with children and young people with severe emotional/behavioural difficulties.
• Experience of multi-agency working.
• Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
• Well developed skills in communicating effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients and families, carers and other professional colleagues.
• Knowledge of the Children Act 1989 + 2004.

Desirable

• Knowledge of structures and operations of Children's Services Authority.
• Experience of working with children and young people in care.
