In conjunction with the team manager and MDT, to plan, develop and co-ordinate the Speech and Language Therapy service to children with speech, language communication needs known to Tier 4 CAMHS. There is a strong support and advisory element within this role.

Main duties of the job

To assess and diagnose speech, language, communication needs (SLCN) for young peopleaccessing Tier 4 CAMHS including those with special educational needs and those in care.To develop and advise on strategies to support young people with SLCN accessing Tier 4 CAMHS.This includes working with young people and with the people work with and support them on a daily basis.Where appropriate and in agreement with the young person, to develop and implement highly specialist speech and language therapy treatment and programmes and to measure and evaluate outcomes. To contribute highly specialist knowledge to multi and uni-disciplinary teams to ensure a clientfocused approach to treatment. To attend high risk review meetings as requested.To communicate complex information from highly specialist assessment and treatment to clients, carers and other professionals.

All new clinical support staff will be required to have completed or working towards the Care Certificate (CWP In-house 2 day training to be completed within 6 months of start date).

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent
  • Health Care Professions Council - Licence to Practice
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to masters level equivalent
Desirable
  • Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Membership of Relevant Clinical Excellence Networks
Knowledge and Expertise Essential
  • Awareness of SEN process and EHCP
  • Awareness of Code of Practice and National Curriculum
  • Well established knowledge of a broad range assessment tools relevant to the specialist client group
  • In-depth knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the specialist client group)
  • In depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to the client group) and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits
  • In depth knowledge of the principles of clinical governance /audit
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
  • Knowledge of standards of record keeping
Desirable
  • Knowledge of Makaton and PECS, AAC
  • Auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
Experience Essential
  • Relevant experience at a post graduate level
  • Relevant highly specialist experience post qualification
  • In-depth experience within specialist area
