Aston Ward are seeking an energetic, highly motivated and experienced Band 6 Charge Nurse who has the skills and knowledge of working in an acute mental health wards.

We are looking for an accomplished and experienced individual with proven abilities in clinical leadership and resource management. Clinically based and patient focused you'll inspire expert nursing and clinical care through individual and best practice.

Aston ward is a 20 bedded mixed treatment ward providing high levels of assessment and treatment to service users suffering from mental health difficulties. You will have a proven record of managing a nursing team whilst maintaining high professional standards. We are looking for a team player committed to the development and delivery of evidence based, clinically effective treatment approaches and exceeding our client's expectations.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work on Aston ward Lister hospital Stevenage. The unit provides mental health support and care to service users experiencing mental health crisis. They will be a key member of Aston ward Inpatient Team acting as the charge nurse for the unit and be responsible / primary nurse for a designated group of patients and will be responsible for the assessment of their needs and for the planning, implementing and evaluation of the care provided to meet those needs. They will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team liaising closely with other agencies within and outside the ward/unit. The post holder will be leading on shifts on the ward and provide clinical supervision to junior staff members. Excellent communication and relationship management skills are essential to this post. Act as lead nurse for a defined group of patients. Act as the charge nurse for the unit, assess plan, implement and evaluate the care provided especially with regard to identifying and managing risk. Treat patients with fairness and respect, maintaining confidentiality appropriately. Assist the inpatients manager, the team and charge nurses in maintaining standards of care . To be fully involved in ward rounds, handovers and other meetings where patient care is discussed and reviewed as required. To expedite and participate in the assessment, admission, transfer and discharge of patients according to local guidelines and standards.

In addition to managing the clinical aspects of being a Band 6 Charge Nurse, the post holder will take an active part in the assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for service users in collaboration with inpatient multi-disciplinary services. Liaising with colleagues and carers, ensuring they are fully aware of all aspects of a service users care and treatment.

The post holder will have effective communication skills and be able to contribute towards patient recovery and wellbeing.

You will be able to identify individuals' care needs. Planning, implementing and evaluating care plans and risk assessments in collaboration with other teams and professionals. Maintaining lines of communication with all departments and staff involved in a service users care. Reporting on progress and effectiveness to the appropriate MDT.

Participating in ward rounds and handovers, etc. Preparing reports as required. Acting as deputy manager to junior staff providing leadership and support.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • RMN/RLDN or Dip/ Bsc (Hons) in Mental Health/ Learning Disability Nursing ENB 998 / Preceptorship and Mentorship. ENB.
Experience Essential
  • At least 1 years post registration experience at Band 5.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable
  • Experience of working in other clinical settings.
