Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Brockington Mother and Baby Unit for an appropriately experienced RMN to work as a Deputy Ward Manager in a permanent full time position. Applications are invited from individuals who have a genuine interest in perinatal specific issues, however clinical experience in this specialism is not essential as training will be provided. We positively encourage both male and female applicants for this post.
You will have the opportunity to join a specialist team delivering high standards of nursing care to women and their families who are experiencing pregnancy related mental health problems.
You will have an awareness of managerial responsibilities and the implementation of Trust policies and procedures. You will fulfil the role of ward manager in their absence, and will be expected to complete Site Manager Duty on a rotational basis, following induction to the role.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual who is an effective communicator and team player. You will provide high standards of care that is evidence based and you will be expected to work days, nights and weekends as per service requirements. A caring and sensitive nature is essential, and a willingness to learn new skills is imperative.

The Deputy Ward Manager will assist the Ward Manager in the effective day to day management of the in-patient unit for patients experiencing perinatal mental health disorders. They will be involved daily in the clinical provision of a needs led service, ensuring a high standard of effective, evidence based treatment is delivered.
The post will be ward based in Stafford, though significant liaison with community based staff and services is expected. The position will involve direct management of staff and their development, including the delivery of education, supervision and support for junior staff and mentoring of students.
The Deputy Ward Manager will act up the position of Ward Manager during their planned and unplanned absences.

- Registered Nurse on NMC Register
- Conforms to NMC requirements
- Registered Mental Health Nurse
- Experience of formulating assessments, planning, co-ordinating and supporting people within a hospital setting.
- Experience of providing care and interventions within a health setting including specialist mental health settings.
- Demonstrate working knowledge/understanding of evidence based practice.
- Demonstrate an awareness of current thinking and guidance in the management of mental health conditions.
- Ability to assess and evaluate complex mental health conditions.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the need for multi-disciplinary working and an ability to work across professional boundaries.
- Ability to use own initiative, to enable contribution to a multi-disciplinary team approach.
- Ability to effectively formulate risk management plans and to evaluate regularly.
- Standard keyboard skills required for inputting onto RiO.
- Able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.
