Exciting opportunities for Registered Mental Health Nurses have arisen to join our Secure Services Directorate at Langdon Hospital.

We are seeking applications from experienced (Preceptorships completed) RMN's to join the team which comprises a Multi- Disciplinary range of staff including Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Physical Activity workers and Peer Support Workers.

The Secure Services Directorate can be challenging but the work is highly rewarding. We embrace recovery with a holistic approach to care. You will be willing to lead and inspire colleagues to deliver care that helps our patients on the road to recovery.

We offer a range of training in evidence based skills to enable to the successful applicants to bring knowledge and skills to their interventions. The focus of the service is to support recovery, provide hope and rehabilitation by delivering the intensive inpatient component of the care pathway to people with complex severe mental illness.

You will be passionate about making a difference to peoples lives, responsible for managing and directing the care of some of the most vulnerable people we are responsible for, many of whom will have complex and ongoing needs.

Main duties of the job

The role of a Registered Mental Health Nurse will include full Psychosocial assessments, promotion of social inclusion, development of independence and maximising social, functional and self-management skills. There will be an expectation to enhance the involvement of, and provide support for family, friends and carers to ensure the team works in partnership where possible.

Using your skills and experience to develop packages of treatment that focus on recovery, where possible, helping the people we care for to regain some independence.

You will be able to demonstrate specific examples of how your involvement has improved patient care, the patient experience and how you have influenced teams to deliver high-quality care.

Deputise for more senior staff, set an example for other members of staff. You will exemplify the recovery approach, taking a holistic approach to care that involves the entire person.

Personally, you will be a clear and confident communicator, capable of interacting and working effectively with people who use our services. This includes families, carers, staff and stakeholders from all backgrounds. Working independently, you will make decisions that change lives every single day.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Qualified RMN and current professional registration.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of people with mental health problems.
  • Training, knowledge in at least one therapeutic intervention (willingness to obtain qualifications in this area).
  • Training and experience e.g., Manual Handling, First Aid, Food Handling, MHA. Administration of medications
Experience Essential
  • Previous employment and or experience of working with people in a caring situation, dealing with the public.
  • Able to demonstrate past leadership experience, experience of shift co-ordination.
  • Ability to generate ideas for activities.
  • Interest in a wide range of people and personalities.
  • Effective team worker and proven team player.
  • Life skills and mature outlook needed to work in a robust Health Care Environment.
  • Good level of IT Computer skills.
  • Able to supervise others and provide critical and constructive feedback.
Desirable
  • Previous care experience with individuals who have suffered Mental Health difficulties.
  • Mentorship Training,willingness to obtain qualifications in this area.
  • Other professional development.
