This is an exciting job for a Clinical Psychologist interested to develop their skills in clinical neuropsychological assessment, neuro-rehabilitation and therapeutic approaches with stroke survivors, their family members and carers. The position would suit someone newly qualified as a preceptorship post (7/8a) is available, or someone bringing transferable skills from another 8a post. The post covers the Thanet area with an office base at Gregory House in Canterbury alongside colleagues. The trust has a hybrid model of working. Travel to clinic sites and home visits will be required.

The job is focused on developing bespoke neuropsychological interventions for stroke survivors and their families or carers. The work will involve supporting people with their emotional adjustment to the effects of their stroke and offering cognitive assessment and rehabilitation interventions. We take a client centred approach, helping people identify and reach their goals.The post holder will be working closely with the MDT, with lots of joint working.

There is a strong rehabilitation focus and members of the service have interests in a wide range of therapeutic approaches including ACT, CBT and Systemic Family Therapy.The service has close links to Salomons Clinical Psychology Training Course. There is a commitment to training and CPD. There will be close working with a Principal Clinical Psychologist, who will provide clinical supervision, and lots of opportunity for informal support.

Main duties of the job

To provide a community clinical neuropsychology service in the Thanet area as part of the stroke pathway, providing high quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory and evaluative) specialist neuropsychological interventions.

To ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and of service functioning by undertaking research and development activities relevant to the service area.

Members of our service receive regular supervision and there is a commitment to ongoing training and professional development with support for attending external training courses and regular in-house CPD events. The service has supported many staff to undertake further qualifications in clinical neuropsychology.

• To provide specialist psychological assessment of stroke survivors and their families or carers referred to the Clinical Neuropsychology Service.
• To formulate and implement plans of specialist psychological treatment following stroke based on a multi-factorial neuropsychological understanding and current evidence-based best practice.
• To undertake a range of psychological therapeutic interventions, drawing on a range of psychological models and employing a range of modalities (individual, family and group) adapted and tailored to the needs of the individual, the context and ongoing evaluation of the outcomes of the intervention.
• To be responsible for providing a specialist psychological perspective in the multi-disciplinary assessment of stroke survivors and their families.
• To contribute specialist psychological advice to the multi-disciplinary formulation of therapeutic/intervention plans, and to be involved in, or oversee specialist psychological aspects of their implementation in collaboration with other staff.
• To undertake psychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant individuals and provide advice on the psychological aspects of risk to the multi-disciplinary team.
• To consult with and provide specialist psychological guidance to carers and families of stroke survivors.
• To exercise autonomous professional judgement and responsibility for the psychological management of cases on own case load.
