We have an Advanced Physiotherapist (Band 7) role available in our physiotherapy Service that spans HMP Bedford, Yarl's Wood IRC and HMP Woodhill and would suit an enthusiastic and motivated physiotherapist who is seeking a challenge.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about gaining further MSK experience in a dynamic and challenging setting and to help drive the service forward. Main duties of the job

Working in the Physiotherapy service you will be treating a wide range of conditions such as: spinal, peripheral, orthopaedic, rheumatological, chronic pain, sports and MSK injuries and dysfunctions. You will be working within healthcare service as part of a multi skilled team to provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and advice to MSK patients in primary care. This service is to deliver seamless, transformational, and high-quality care to patients, as well as offering opportunities for development and expansion of clinical skills for clinicians.

Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools.We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • HCPC registration as Physiotherapist.
  • Evidence of post graduate training
  • MSc Qualification/ MSc Module completion or willingness to undertake
  • Degree in Physiotherapy
Desirable
  • Evidence of post graduate specialist training (e.g., multiple clinical/ professional courses/ training as well as internal development training).
  • Have a Portfolio evidence of learning and have or working towards further Post graduate qualifications
Experience Essential
  • Have a Portfolio evidence of learning and have or working towards further Post graduate qualifications
  • Up to date with professional practice and research.
  • Have an understanding of clinical governance underpinning healthcare within prisons.
  • Understanding of legal responsibilities.
  • Experience of working autonomously and unsupervised.
  • Experience of managing a diverse caseload of MSK patients, including primary care (GP) referrals and Orthopedic (Consultant) referrals.
  • Experience of managing complex patients with conflicting and challenging clinical presentations and reflection of learning of this.
Desirable
  • Experience working in a prison or secure environment
  • Awareness of National strategic NHS directives within the prison system and the implications for Physiotherapy.
  • Experience of service improvement projects.
Skills Essential
  • Advanced clinical reasoning and treatment skills in MSK field responding to RED flags as appropriate
  • The ability to act independently and make reasoned decisions, without direct support.
  • The ability to manage difficult and challenging situations where there may not be direct support.
  • Ability to manage own stress and work in a stressful and unpredictable environment.
  • The ability to discuss clinical reasoning in the management of complex MSK conditions and be able to support other members of staff to do this.
  • Be able to travel between various sites as service needs dictate.

  • Leadership and presentational skills
