We would like to invite applicants to join us within the University of Hospital of Southampton Adult Psychology service. The post includes working in staff psychology for 2 days and within the adult Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease service for 1.5 days.
Postholders will be encouraged to link to local and national clinical health psychologists to develop links and best practice. Within the department there is a keen interest in developing and sharing knowledge. We have active interests in Systemic, Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive Analytic Therapy and EMDR therapeutic approaches. Funded training opportunities are available to all team Psychologists; recently these have included EMDR, ACT and CAT.
The team can accommodate flexible working with most posts having an element of remote working. Personal wellbeing is valued within the team.
We have close links with Southampton University where there is an established Clinical Psychology training course and many psychologists teach on the systemic and health modules. There are also specialist courses in Health Psychology and a research group focusing on the applications of Health Psychology.
Postholders will connect to the wider UHS Adult Psychology team and other link with Child Psychology, Neuro Psychology, Mental Health Liaison and wider psychological services to develop pathways around patient care.
Main duties of the job
As a senior clinician with substantial clinical experience and post-qualification training, the post-holder will provide a high level of expertise to their allocated medical service and or/ staff support service and the Adult Clinical Health Psychology service, Department of Psychological Medicine.
Working with the senior management and clinical staff, to take a supporting role in the creation, development, containment and support of a clinical health psychology service that works with University Hospital Southampton to provide the highest quality psychologically informed care for adults within designated hospital services which may include staff support.

*Take clinical leadership responsibility for the implementation and coordination of psychological care for the medical service they work into and for services as agreed with the Lead Clinical Psychologist
*Ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist psychological service to clients of the designated medical service and/ or staff support service within University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust with an emphasis on co-production, dealing with primarily the complex psychological problem and supporting the development of a psychological milieu and trauma informed approach to care.
*The post-holder will undertake complex assessments and intervention strategies, including specialist neuropsychological assessment; offer consultancy and provide expert advice to non psychologist colleagues, and the wider clinical multi-professional team, other agencies and non-professional carers.
*Provide leadership, consultation, supervision and support to psychologists and other members of the clinical team who provide psychologically based care and treatment within this setting.
*Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service.
*The post-holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development, research and teaching and act as a highly specialist resource to the wider professional community.
*The post-holder will propose and implement policy changes within Clinical Health Psychology Service, working closely with other members of the Psychological Leadership Team and the Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist for UHS Adults.. This will include a role in effective recruitment, professional appraisal, and the identification of CPD needs.
*The post holder will place an emphasis on co-production and demonstrate an attitude which respects and values clients' and their carers, delivering the core values of the trust: clients and people first; partnership; and respect.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
- Formal training in supervision of other psychologists or equivalent experience.
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist
