We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to work in a new community mental health service in Wigan called Living Well (LW). The Living Well Service will enable timely access to mental health services when people need it most and provide support for people who might not traditionally meet the threshold or criteria of existing mental health services. The team will be multidisciplinary and will include third sector organizations. We will also be supporting several peer mentor roles within the team.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the LW service delivery and target objectives/priorities to ensure the most efficient and effective development, utilisation and contribution of psychiatric knowledge and practice.

To be responsible for the development and systematic provision of psychiatry services in the LW service at a highly specialist level. To adhere to the organisation of the service particularly regarding membership of the multidisciplinary team.

To complete psychiatric assessments based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychiatric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations, and interviews with people using the service, family members and others involved in the person's care.

To develop psychiatric formulations and diagnoses in conjunction with LW Service team members.

To initiate and monitor prescriptions of relevant psychiatric medications for a range of complex mental health issues working with non-medical prescribers in the LW service.

To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, formulation, treatment, and discharge of people whose problems are managed by shared care plans.

To provide highly specialist psychiatric advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals and people contributing directly to persons' formulation, diagnosis, and treatment plan.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Skills Essential
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
