We are looking for a Senior Child Psychotherapist to join the South Camden Community Team as the Lead for the Child Psychotherapy discipline to replace our Consultant Child psychotherapist who is retiring. We are a large, friendly Tavistock team based in Mornington Crescent. The work environment is lively and there is a history of good multi-disciplinary team-working where differences of training and profession are valued and respected. Child Psychotherapy has a significant presence in the team; there is a Lead Child Psychotherapist, five other qualified Child Psychotherapists and eight trainees, plus three assistant child psychotherapists and we are currently the largest profession in the team. We offer a service to 0-18 year old.

This post spans outreach community work, generic casework, child psychotherapy assessment and treatment as well as supporting the child psychotherapy training cases. The work takes place in the team's offices as well as community settings, such as schools including UCL Academy. The post holder will have experience at a senior child psychotherapist preferably with some leadership and management experience.

The post holder will join the team in direct work with infants, children, young people their families and carers as well as a service supervisor to our eight child psychotherapy trainees (M80) and assistant psychotherapists.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be the Lead Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist in South Camden Community Team and will hold a senior position within the team amongst the Clinical Team Manager, other discipline leads and the Consultant Psychiatrist.

The post holder will lead and manage the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy discipline, attending to line management, clinical supervision and manage the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy waiting list. The post holder will also service supervise and manage eight child psychotherapist trainees as well as assistants.

The post holder will hold a highly complex caseload and develop and formulate specialised programmes of care for service users that are outcome focused and evidence based.

You will communicate complex information in a highly skilled and sensitive manner to members of the multidisciplinary team, care partners and service users, who may on occasion, present with challenging behaviours.

The post holder will act as a case manager for service users being treated by other colleagues, providing oversight of assessments, treatment and discharge of patients.

The post holder will maintain a high standard of clinical records, preparing reports for internal use and for external agencies, maintaining good communications with referrers and other professionals involved.

The South Camden Community Team (SCCT) supports the emotional well-being needs of young people (0-18 years) with assessment and evidence-based therapeutic clinical work. It is a rich MDT made up of a range of clinical disciplines to include: Child Psychotherapy, Clinical/Counselling Psychology, CBT Therapy, Family Therapy and Psychiatry. The team work closely with partners in the borough to include: schools, local authority and the voluntary sector.

Camden CAMHS is one of the pilot sites for the Trailblazers' initiatives. We work alongside the Mental Health Support Teams and emotional wellbeing pathway, which are fully integrated in the community teams. We strive to be an accessible, responsive and innovative service with patient care and patient experience at its heart. You will join the experienced, supportive and highly skilled senior child and adolescent psychotherapist to strengthen and contribute to the discipline which is developing in scope to meet the local needs. You will offer assessment and treatment to support children, young people and families/carers. You will provide specialist supervision of staff including trainees; consultation, teaching and training for staff within health, education, social care and third sector organisations.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Doctoral Level Qualification as a minimum in Child Psychotherapy,
  • Registration with professional body - ACP
  • Evidence of further specialist training i.e. undertaking a recognized child psychotherapy supervision course.
Experience Essential
  • Significant experience of working with client population.
  • Strong track record of managing complexity and risk whilst maintaining high standards of service delivery
  • Experience of working within a specialist CAMHS service High level of expertise in managing and treating the client group with complex mental presentations
  • Experience of working to deliver service delivery targets
  • Experience of assessment and treatment of the full range of presenting problems in the client population
  • Experience of contributing to or working on Quality Improvement initiatives
Skills Essential
  • Skills for assessing and communicating highly complex client conditions and applying appropriate clinical treatments
  • Senior practitioner experience of providing leadership, expertise and supervision to other professionals. Extensive knowledge of relevant safeguarding practice, legislation and research
  • Ability to manage own clinical caseload and provide oversight of others within the team
  • Substantial Experience of delivering supervision to staff and trainees
  • Willingness to contribute to development of service through financial initiatives and income generation
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office), basic keyboard skills for writing reports, clinical case notes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to gain and sustain credibility with clinicians/managers
  • Personal duty of care in relation to equipment used in clinical practice
