The Intensive Support Service Band 7 Occupational Therapist

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated Occupational Therapist to join the Intensive Support Service. This role would also require you to work in the Inpatient Unit based in Epsom.

The Intensive Support Service is a forward-thinking team, created in response to the Transforming Care agenda. We support people with learning disabilities and complex needs, within the community and inpatient settings.

Working as a key member of the clinical team in the Intensive Support Service, you will utilise your assessment and intervention skills to deliver group and individual interventions. You will also be using skills in providing training and consultation.

You will be part of an Occupational Therapy team who are committed to leading and developing innovative ways of ensuring the occupational needs of people who use our services are a key component of high-quality service delivery.

The post-holder would need to hold a full driving license and be prepared to travel to locations across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

To ensure that the healthcare needs of people with learning disabilities are communicated to team manager / professional lead/ care practitioner. To positively contribute to divisional developments in relation to occupational therapy practice.

Participate in a variety of meetings relating to the service including Transforming Care Response group and Care & Treatment reviews.

To demonstrate expertise and specialist occupational therapy skills in areas such as occupational engagement, environmental adaptation, development and maintenance of skills needed for living an ordinary life.

To actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, to act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for their dignity, choice, self-esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.

To practice within the Positive Behaviour Support framework.

To carry out comprehensive assessments, plan implement and evaluate delivery of occupational therapy interventions as part of a holistic approach.

To plan and deliver a highly specialist occupational therapy service (in leadership or advanced therapy role) and to oversee its clinical governance.

To be responsible for the professional leadership and continued development of a team and service area.

To work with the other professional PBS Leads to lead the development of PBS practice in the learning disabilities division.

To work with the other professional PBS Leads to contribute to the development of PBS practice across Surrey.

To lead in the supervision and Individual Performance Review/Appraisal of all occupational therapy staff.

To ensure that the healthcare needs of people with learning disabilities are communicated to service commissioners and providers. To positively contribute to divisional developments in relation to occupational therapy practice. To advocate and represent the service.

To be responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols and care pathways.
