Are you a passionate Occupational Therapist looking for a new and exciting challenge with older adults? An opportunity has arisen for a senior Occupational Therapist to join our inpatients team based in Stockport working with older people with mental health issues. Our patients come to us from many different settings needing assessment and support to remain as independent as possible. Patients can have a variety of mental and physical health conditions. The Occupational Therapy role is crucial in ensuring patients health, wellbeing and independence are appropriately assessed and facilitated.

Main duties of the job

A part of the role is to support with discharge planning, working closely with the discharge social workers, including assessments on the ward and in the home setting. You will have the opportunity to work alongside the wider MDT consisting of consultant psychiatrists, nurses, CPN's, community support workers/HCA's, physiotherapists, psychologists, OT students and apprentices. This post would suit an OT who has experience of working with older adults with complex needs in a mental health setting who can provide holistic assessments and interventions.

This is a full-time post 37.5 hrs.

Person Specification Education / Qualifications Essential
  • Must hold a diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy and be registered with HCPC.
  • Evidence of post qualification experience and continuing professional development to post graduate diploma level.
  • Willingness to undertake further training relevant to the role resulting from legislative or service changes, as appropriate
Experience Essential
  • Substantial post registration experience working in a mental health service.
  • Experience in working with people with severe and complex mental health needs
  • Experience of MDT working
Desirable
  • Experience of managing or participating in change
  • Experience of leading a team.
  • Experience of working in a community setting
  • Experience of supervision
  • Experience of managing a caseload
  • Experience of working with older people
Knowledge Essential
  • Extensive knowledge / experience in social inclusion and recovery model of care.
  • Sound understanding of current local and national policies in relation to Mental Health including the Mental Health Act , Risk Assessment and Management processes and CPA processes
  • Good working knowledge of assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mental health conditions and how they impact on an individual's wellbeing and occupational functioning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of broad range of interventions required to support individuals with severe and complex mental health needs.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of MOHO and its' assessment tools.
  • Ability to carry our cognitive assessments
  • Knowledge of the occupational context of community mental health services and its' application to assessment and treatment

Work Related Circumstances Essential
  • Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs
