This is a full - time appointment for a Specialty Doctor in psychiatry to work with the inpatient unit at the Meadowbrook Unit. They will work exclusively with patients admitted to Eagleton Ward. This is a new post and the successful candidate will be supervised by one of the consultants.

The Appointee is not required to participate on the on-call rota within Salford. However, this can be negotiated if the successful candidate wants to do on calls.



Main duties of the job

  • The post holder would join the clinical team that currently covers male old age organic beds (around 17 beds in Holly Ward) and part of Hazelwood ward. The base would be in Woodlands Hospital and he/she will be supervised by Dr McMahon.
  • The post holder will liaise with the other medical colleagues within the Salford area and support the inpatient team with clinical activity that covers meetings, CPAs, tribunals, and other Mental Health Act related activity.
  • The post holder will review patients presenting to MATs clinics and complete home visits for MATS and CMHT patients.
  • The post holder will be expected to Diagnose and formulate management plans with supervision as required.

  • Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
  • Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
  • Participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
  • Participate in annual appraisal.

Attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment
Skills Essential
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
