Oxford Health is looking for outstanding candidates for this attractive part-time opportunity to work in the Aylesbury Community Mental Health Team which is based at the Whiteleaf Centre, in Buckinghamshire.

This is an 8 session Consultant Psychiatrist post covering north Buckinghamshire. The post has comprehensive support from doctor in training colleagues and dedicated admin resource. The Trust is committed to high quality teaching and training for medical students, post graduate trainees in psychiatry, specialty doctors, students and other professionals. The consultant will provide direct clinical supervision and line management with opportunities to develop your skills in these areas.

Main duties of the job

With the changing circumstances of modern mental healthcare, the ability to adapt and demonstrate new ways of working is essential. You will have experience of working in General Adult Psychiatry and have great interpersonal skills working with colleagues to work collaboratively with our team managers, and to provide leadership and clinical expertise to our highly skilled and committed multidisciplinary teams.

The post holder will provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the Aylesbury Community Mental Health Team (CMHT).Aylesbury CMHT serves a population of approximately 130,000 and Chiltern CMHT approximately 220,000. Chiltern CMHT covers patients registered with 35 GP practices and Aylesbury AMHT with 21 GP practices.

Job description Job responsibilities

Medical responsibility for patients usually remains with the GP, except where a medical member of the team takes a patient on for continuing treatment (e.g. patients on CTO).The post holder will have responsibility for those patients seen by himself/herself, together with those patients seen by medical staff directly supervised by the post holder.The post holder will work alongside the team manager, Consultant Psychologist and Consultant Nurse and the other Consultant Psychiatrists in the team to ensure the effective functioning and development of the service.The post holder will provide direct clinical supervision and line management to the trainees and specialty doctors and any senior trainee placed with the team.This will include 1 hour per week clinical supervision for trainees and a pro rata equivalent level of supervision to specialty doctors- in conjunction with other consultants.For a detailed list of the roles and responsibilities for this post, please see the attached job description.

Person Specification Skills & Knowledge Essential
  • Ability to promote effective team working

  • Must have good skills in communication with patients, relatives, colleagues and staff of other organisations. Good spoken and written English.

  • Experience in supervising and teaching core psychiatric trainees
  • Application of research evidence to clinical practice
Desirable
  • Relevant experience of the administrative, management and leadership roles of senior medical staff Inter-agency partnership working and development

Qualifications Essential
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrist's Guidelines)
  • Approved clinician Status and section 12( MHA) Approval are essential. Candidates who are in the process of getting AC approval will be considered. Eligibility for Section 12 (Mental Health Act)
  • Full GMC registration with license to practice
Desirable
  • Higher degree or equivalent in relevant field of medical, psychological or other studies or postgraduate teaching qualification
Training Essential
  • CCT in Psychiatry; OR Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in psychiatry; OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview; OR CESR
Desirable
  • Sub-specialty or other specialist clinical training relevant to post
Clinical Experience Essential
  • Experience of the full range of clinical responsibilities expected of a consultant in this specialty.
Desirable
  • Application of evidence-based practice and interest in clinical and policy developments for this care group.
Ability Essential
  • Ability to undertake full range of consultant responsibilities
