We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join the well established multi-disciplinary Community Learning Disability team, based at St Andrews House, Derby

We are a friendly and supportive team of Physiotherapists who are motivated to provide a service reflecting national guidelines and recommendations.

We work collaboratively with the multi professional team to meet the health needs of people with a learning disability and/or autism.

If you would like to work with adults with a learning disability and can demonstrate excellent communication skills and are able to plan and deliver high quality, person centred, evidence based clinical care, we would very much like to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As a band 6 Physiotherapist the post holder will be required to:
  • Provide specialist assessment, treatment, advice and education for clients with a learning disability, the majority of whom will be present with a wide range of complex and multiple problems.
  • Work closely with a variety of service providers and agencies throughout the Derbyshire Learning Disability Service to provide an holistic approach to the treatment of adults with a learning disability.
  • Educate, train and provide specialist advice to health education and social care colleagues, support staff, students, carers and any other personnel/agencies that come into contact with people who have a learning disability.
  • Participate in the development of effective, responsive, evidence based person-centred services
  • Contribute to the overall planning, delivery and evaluation of Physiotherapy services, taking the lead in areas of clinical interest, as determined by service need.
  • Participate in clinically related administration, reviews, audits, research projects and the collection of statistics.

  • Post graduate experience including at least one junior rotation in learning disabilities
  • Multi disciplinary working
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
  • Experience in other related areas such as community, neurology, paediatrics, mental health
  • Experience in supervising other staff e.g assistants/ technical instructors
Skills Essential
  • Core and developing specialist Physiotherapy skills
  • A range of assessment and treatment tools and approaches and willingness and ability to extend these
  • Observation, palpatory and handling skills
  • Reasoning and analytical skills
  • Ability to reflect on experience, learning and practice and adapt skills and approaches appropriately
