MSK Physiotherapist - Band 6 - 37.5 hours - Permanent
A very exciting opportunity has arisen for a physiotherapists to join the MSK Outpatient Physiotherapy Team in the Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care Foundation Trust. The Outpatient Physiotherapy Team provides physiotherapy to primarily adult patients with a musculoskeletal problem and occasionally children with specific MSK conditions from Consultant in and around Tameside and Glossop.
We provide services from two Clinic bases- Ashton Primary Care Centre and Glossop Primary Care Centre. Our services have recently integrated with the First Contact Practitioner team thus providing greater opportunities for further development in skills.
We see patients with various musculoskeletal conditions including post- surgical cases. We have few team members specialising in Chronic Pain / Rheumatology / Hand Specialist with splinting skills. We also see Amputee patients. The team operates Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm (excl Bank Holidays) so hours will be worked within these parameters.
We are a friendly team, always interested in improving our skills and knowledge to provide better patient care .
Main duties of the job
To independently provide assessments and treatments of musculo-skeletal/Orthopaedic patients referred from both GP's and other health professionals. Including patients with complex and/or chronic presentation.

SECTION 1- MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
To plan organise, prioritise and manage own caseload.
Maintain safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, trust and departmental policies in relation to self, patients colleagues and equipment.
Maintain professional competence through continuous professional development.
Maintain HCPC registration.
To provide clinical supervision of students and junior staff.
To maintain accurate records of assessments and treatments in accordance with trust and professional standards. Write reports to consultants, general practitioners, podiatrists and other health care professionals.
To provide activity statistics required by the PCT.
To maintain patient information in accordance with Data Protection Act.
To report incidents in accordance with trust policy.
To work to standards set by the Health Profession Council and national standards eg. National Service Frameworks.
To participate in audit as required by the department and trust.
To implement changes in practise and service delivery when necessary, in partnership with colleagues and manager.
Actively contribute and participate in in-service training.
Participate in the personal development review scheme as an attendee
SECTION 2- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Work as an autonomous practitioner
To assess and treat patients using knowledge of musculoskeletal pathology. Ability to diagnose and develop treatment plans using clinical reasoning skills.
To continually evaluate the patients progress and change treatment accordingly.
Use of therapeutic handling techniques including palpation skills, manual therapy and manual handling skills.
Good knowledge of all electrotherapy equipment and its safe application.
To gain consent from patients and negotiate and agree treatment goals.
To discuss management of patients care with patients, carers, G.P.s, consultants and other allied health professionals. This involves challenging or negotiating changes to patient management.
SECTION 3- EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT
Physical:-
Handling and moving of equipment and plinths. The post holder will be expected to frequently move the patients trunk and limbs during a treatment session. Manual resistance testing of movements and provide tactile feedback. Frequent bending and squatting whilst demonstrating exercises.
Mental:-
Post-holder will be expected to concentrate during treatment sessions and ensure good communication with all patients including those who have impaired understanding and or communication difficulties eg. Impaired speech or hearing or when English is not a first language.
Treatment sessions last on average 30 minutes and the post-holder will be working under a constant degree of pressure.
Emotional:-
Need to discuss diagnosis and prognosis of treatment with patients, which may include sensitive or unwelcome news.

- Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy
- HCPC registration
- Evidence of continual professional development
- 2 years post-graduate experience in a musculoskeletal setting
- Confident in clinical knowledge and limitations
- Ability to exercise clinical judgement

- Ability to travel between sites
- To cover hours between 8am and 6pm
- Willingness to undertake training required for the post
