Main duties of the job

We are seeking a motivated and committed doctor who has a passion for working within this specialized area. The post holder will join a multi-disciplinary team including Consultant Psychiatrist, nurses, art psychotherapists, systemic family therapists, Social workers and CBT Practitioners, providing assessment and treatment to young people and their families across the locality.

The service accepts referrals for young people up to 18 years of age who are registered with a local GP. The team accepts referrals for young people where it is suspected that they may have a Mental Health Disorder. The Multi-disciplinary team provides assessment and treatment for young people and their families.

Job description Job responsibilities

The Specialist will provide highly specialist psychiatric assessments and interventions for young people presenting with Emotional and Behavioural difficulties, This role will deliver a service across the Cannock catchment area of South Staffordshire. The post holder will provide medical support to other team members assessing and treating psychiatric complications.

The post holder will be an integral member of the multi disciplinary team and will be involved in all aspects of assessment and treatment including physical health monitoring where required

It is intended that the Specialist will work closely with other Team members and external agencies to provide a comprehensive assessment and treatment package to young people.

The post holder will provide highly specialist psychiatric input to the Cannock CAMHS team. The role may include some supervision of any nurse prescribers working within the service. The role will also entail offering advice and consultation to non-psychiatric colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures.

There will be an opportunity to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.

The post holder will be required to work both in clinic and community settings such as CAMHS clinic bases (predominantly) but also seeing young people in schools and other settings if required.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment.
Language Skills Essential
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, which could be demonstrated by one of the following: oapplicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English oapplicants have scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent equal to those required for recruitment to MMC specialty training programmes.
Clinical Skills Essential
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge and experience: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to child and adolescent mental health.
