We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, and skilled nurse to provide high level clinical leadership to the Winchester CMHT along with the fellow nurse Team Leaders.

The CMHT is a dynamic multi-disciplinary team which the successful candidate will be at the heart of promoting recovery and supporting the team.

The CMHT is a busy, supportive environment which is caring to staff and we are keen to allow and bring new and positive change -- we welcome bright new ideas. Many staff at the CMHT have worked here for over five years with a good handful of staff being in the team for over ten years. This we hope shows candidates the team are committed, supportive and kind.

We are one of only a few NHS Trusts in the country to offer fully funded leadership and management qualifications to staff. We have seen many staff attend bespoke training courses like CBT, DBT and modules at university and attend conferences. We are keen to support personal growth and will help ambitious candidates who want to progress in their career. We have our own unique, internal Academy of Excellence supporting registered staff to gain support throughout their careers to realise their aspirations as well as links to local universities to support further education and development. Successful candidates will also work closely with our practice educator to support the team in learning but also to maximise their own learning opportunities in this leadership role.

Main duties of the job

The Nurse Specialist will oversee and implement best practice regarding the treatment and care pathway for the severe and enduring mental health service user group, with a clear focus on clinical risk and its management.

The successful candidate will be expected to care co-ordinate a very small group of patients with complex mental health needs. They will manage a brand new clinic devised by Winchester CMHT called the Practitioner Led Clinic co-ordinating care for patients with complex needs in a clinic environment; the patients may be on a DBT pathway or needing support that is structured and well organised. The candidate will be part of the clozapine and depot team running one small outreach clinic monthly. The candidate will look to find new ways of working that is collaborative to co-production to set new and exciting ways of working in the CMHT. We would love a Non Medical Prescriber but would also welcome a nurse keen to progress to this pathway.

Job description Job responsibilities

To provide clinical expertise to Winchester CMHT. The Nurse Specialist will oversee and implement best practice regarding the treatment and care pathway for patients with severe and enduring mental illness, with a clear focus on clinical risk and its management.

*To provide expertise, support, and advice to clinical practitioners regarding all aspects of care including implementing best practise, based on sound evidence-based and National Guidance.

*To develop and implement relevant training programmes aimed at the development of staff within the clinical environment.

*To provide information, education and support for service users and their carers re management of diagnosis and treatments.

*To interpret national guidelines and relevant research to inform local practice and procedures to achieve best practice.

*To maintain own expert status by developing training and improvement projects underpinned by research and legislation.

*To be member of the Trust Senior Nursing team and to contribute to relevant forums and meetings.

*To take part in and facilitate audits relevant to patient care.

*To take part in RCA reviews and implement any lessons learnt from incidents and complaints within the clinical area.

*To hold a caseload of patients whom will have complex mental health needs.

*To run a practitioner led clinic.

*To be part of the clozapine and depot clinic team.

*To undertake service audits against national guidance such as NICE guidance and benchmarking work against top performing services and use this for continuous service improvement.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Nurse, Mental Health Practitioner
  • Non medical prescribing qualification, on the pathway or keen to consider.
  • Significant post qualifying experience
  • Mentorship course
