We are looking for Children's Nurses or Learning Disability Nurses to join our Children and Young People's Community Nursing Service. The posts are rotational offering opportunities to gain experience in our residential respite unit, continuing care packages, in the community children's nursing team and special schools. The roles are an opportunity to be part of an experienced team, to develop your professional expertise and make a difference where it matters. The successful candidates will care for children with a wide range of physical / learning disabilities who have complex physical health needs including long term ventilation in a variety of settings.

We are looking for enthusiastic nurses with excellent organisational, personal and clinical skills. The posts will also involve supervising and supporting carers. In return you can expect good professional development with a comprehensive in-house training programme and the support of the senior management team, a clinical education team and clinical nurse specialists. The rotational nature of the posts will give the successful candidates a wide range of experience in several community settings ideal for someone wanting to develop their career as a community children's nurse.

If you have an interest in supporting Children and Young People in respite settings or you need a role that offers shift patterns and unsociable hours we have opportunities in the respite team only . Posts in special schools as well as the respite team can offer term time only options.

This post is suited to candidates who have been involved in providing care for children and young people with complex care needs previously and want to broaden their experience in the community. We will also consider newly qualified nurses who can demonstrate an interest in working with children in community settings. The post may be of particular interest to applicants who have worked as childrens carers prior to undertaking their nurse training.

The children we support reflect the rich diversity of the multicultural society in Coventry. We would actively welcome applicants from a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds whose skills and life experiences will enrich the services we provide.

The post, in the respite team, will involve shift working including nights and weekends. The service delivers provision 365 days a year.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Children's Nurse who holds effective registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Or Registered Adult or Learning Disability Nurse who can demonstrate experience working with children with complex physical health needs
  • Nursing Degree or equivalent qualification or willingness to work towards
  • Teaching and assessing qualification or willingness to work towards
Knowledge and skills Essential
  • Must demonstrate safe clinical practice including risk assessment
  • Must be able to demonstrate sound personal management skills - time management, prioritising, planning
  • Must demonstrate a high standard of communication skills with the multi agency team
  • Must have good working knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection
  • Must be committed to principles of Equal Opportunity
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of supporting babies, children and young people with a range of complex health needs and/or life limiting conditions
  • Willingness to develop new relevant skills in response to increasingly complex technology dependent children in the community
Experience Essential
