We are the First Point of Contact Centre for Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Our service has expanded to encompass the changing need of routine, urgent and crisis referrals in line with local and national guidance.
  • We deliver an extended hours, 7 days a week service, 7am-10pm, may include nights as development of the service progresses.
  • We manage professional and self-referrals in to the trust, covering crisis and secondary care.
  • We will triage and move to the appropriate pathway or team, who will provide the most effective and beneficial service, within our trust services or our partner agencies and organisations outside of the trust.
  • We are based with our emergency service colleagues and collaboratively work with the Police and Fire services working alongside us.

Main duties of the job

We are a busy team, managing the referrals that come in to the Trust from a number of primary care, and secondary care services, serving the county of Gloucestershire.

We provide a central resource for referrers and Trust staff to ensure the effective receipt and subsequent processing of referrals into Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust's services. We further provide effective signposting to services external to the Trust.

We accept routine, urgent and crisis referrals, each having a specific pathway to follow.

We provide an effective first point of contact, a link with primary and secondary services, partner agencies and organisations outside of the trust.

You will have - Registered Practitioner status (nursing, allied health etc).

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Registration to a professional body within MH, with post qualification experience in mental health for example: Nursing/ Social worker/ OT
  • Evidence of continued professional development

  • Evidence of formal post registration learning
Length and Nature of Experience Essential
  • oBroad understanding of national policy and its implementation locally oBroad understanding of the requirements of primary care and secondary care
  • oGood understanding of NICE guidelines relating to the treatment of a range of mental health conditions oA good understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and other associated legislation
  • oAble to communicate effectively with a wide range of agencies. oAble to present and share information to colleagues and other professionals.
  • A very good understanding of risk, and risk management with regards to mental health. Able to manage risk in a calm and rational way when handling challenging and often difficult patient calls.
Desirable
  • oExperience of collaborative working with other agencies including the voluntary sector.
Professional, Managerial, Specialist Knowledge Essential
  • oA good understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and other associated legislation
  • oSound clinical ability to engage service users and carers
  • oA good understanding of the range of Services offered within GHC NHS Foundation Trust

  • oA good understanding of other community facilities that may be of help to people with a mental health problem.
  • oExperience of using psychological treatments e.g. CBT
