We are excited to be able to announce that with new mental health transformation funding we will be launching a service aimed at identifying and supporting those at risk of developing psychosis symptoms - an ARMS (At Risk Mental State) service. This service will be separate too, but under the umbrella/have close links with /of existing Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) services. There will be a number of new posts in this new multi-disciplinary team aimed at offering predominantly, but not exclusively, psychosocial interventions with an evidence base of mental health prevention. This post will be part of that new team

Job description Job responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To undertake care co-ordination of a caseload of up to 25 clients in higher need within the service. To participate in the initial assessment of clients using Comprehensive Assessment of At Risk Mental State tool (CAARMS) , to determine appropriateness for ARMS service and to liaise with referring agencies to identify alternative agencies as appropriate to meet the clients needs. Support service user and family to manage their risk and wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) with the allocated peer worker and local social prescribers Empower service users to maintain their social networks Work closely with the ESTEP teams to ensure transitions for patients who have made transition to psychosis happens within national guidelines on timescales Undertake initial health and social needs assessments and participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to look at appropriate selection and allocation of clients to care coordination and regular reviews. Following analysis of client assessments , plan creatively to meet their needs including the provision of evidence based interventions with colleagues Undertake risk assessments with clients on their caseload and plan effectively to manage this plan within MDT. Prioritise and manage workload to ensure the effective management of a defined group of clients with complex needs. To be aware of possibly safeguarding issues , to take responsibility for raising concerns and to seek guidance on safeguarding issues and adhere to local SET procedures. Responsible for working with colleagues in seeking to improve the quality of services provided to our clients/patients. Using quality outcome measures HONOS/ HONOSCA/ QPR and Dialog To work flexibility and participate in the ARMS Service operating outside of core hours where required to meet service user and family need The pattern is subject to change to meet clients needs and the guidelines of the National Service Framework. The post holder will be fully conversant and uphold their professional code of conduct. Ensure that all interventions are undertaken within established time scales and according to standards of best evidence based practice and operational policy. Keep oneself updated in all legislative government initiatives. Particularly those relevant to ARMS and Early Intervention in Psychosis Act as a role model at all times, able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills. Instruct and supervise staff, identifying training needs and actively participating in staff development programmes. This includes induction programmes for new staff. Undertake and be proactive in clinical and managerial supervision in accordance with Trust procedures at regular intervals with the Team Lead; discussing the overall nature of the caseload, work methods and techniques and evaluate clinical effectiveness and practice. Provide clinical and management supervision to junior staff as required and in line with trust standards Ensure all staff are fully conversant with the physical health needs of the client with a holistic approach to care that is reflected that encompasses physical health, mental health and social and psychological care. Assist the Clinical Team Manager and Service Lead in the maintenance and development of team morale by demonstrating support for colleagues and showing a high level of enthusiasm and commitment. Contribute towards training sessions with other professional groups to raise the profile of the ARMS service and for the purposes of case finding. Contribute towards development, evaluation and monitoring of the service through service evaluation and auditing the work of the team ensuring that client needs are fully met and reflected in individual programmes of care according to current national standards Ensure the learning environment for students and trainees is compliant with professional bodys regulations.. Comply with trust policy regarding the use of the intranet, internet and E mail and the requirements of the freedom of information act in line with trust Information Governance policies. Provide professional advice to colleagues including other disciplines deployed within their particular area and outside of the service To be familiar and competent in the use of mainstream IT packages. Comply with trust policies on the use, maintenance and storage of electronic and IT equipment. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing in line with trust policy Provide accurate statistics and reports as required by the manager, team and Trust. Ensure clients in the community with significant risks are identified and that caution and care is taken when visiting these clients and organising joint visits, and by using team signing out procedures and lone worker devices.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent with evidence of further study. Registered with NMC, Social work England or HCPC.
  • Mentorship or equivalent qualification.
  • Evidence of personal and professional development in contempary mental health
Desirable
  • Certificate in a psychotherapeutic/ psychosocial intervention
  • Training in use of CAARMS ( Comprehensive Assessment of At Risk Mental State ) assessment tool
  • Family Intervention training
Knowledge Essential
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of psychosis.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of young people's mental health
  • Excellent knowledge of Early Intervention National Guidance
  • Excellent knowledge of the importance of physical health management in mental health.
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in risk management
  • Varied mental health experience.
  • Maintain own mandatory training and undertake other training as required
  • Understanding of recovery and Wellness Recovery Action Plan ( WRAP)
  • Awareness of trust policies
Desirable
  • Understanding of Ultra high risk/ At risk mental state.
Skills/Experience Essential
  • Literate in IT/Computer Skills
  • Able to make good use of clinical supervision in a group and/or individual format
  • Liaise with other teams and services including external agencies as required for the patient recovery journey.
  • Experience of working in an acute/community mental health setting
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary setting
  • Competent in leading and prioritising in a busy environment
  • Provide effective appraisal and supervision at grades 3 and 5
  • Ability to problem solve and to deal with everyday issues
  • Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent observation skills
  • Able to give clear concise verbal information
  • Excellent record keeping skills
  • Advanced IT skills, including use of Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Ability to work in partnership by developing and maintaining constructive working relationship with colleagues and all relevant agencies
  • Experience in delivering care in accordance with the Recovery Model
  • Provide care to promote social inclusion

  • Experience of working within young people's mental wellbeing services
  • Experience of working in Substance misuse services
