Are you a registered mental health nurse who is passionate about the care of older people accessing community mental health services?

We are looking for someone to join the West Kent Community Older Adult Service who has experience in good quality mental health assessment who is able to plan and deliver interventions in accordance with the values of our organisation. We need someone that can support and nurture our less experienced staff, and to work effectively with the multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will demonstrate passion and commitment to providing a high-quality service for older adults with mental health and Dementia related needs.

You will be able to select your base from a number of locations within West Kent including Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells.

Main duties of the job

We need someone who is a good communicator and is able to adopt a flexible, adaptable and proactive approach to your work.

The successful candidate will be able to provide assessment and treatment to older people, including administering medication. They will take part in our duty system and be able to use their problem-solving skills in responding to patients requiring urgent assessment and support.

We will encourage the successful candidate to develop their own specialist skills, knowledge and competence through participation, reflection, supervision and training and your development will be guided using the trust's appraisal process.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as an RMN
Desirable
  • Further training in Dementia
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working as an RMN with people who have mental health difficulties and/or dementia
Desirable
  • Experience of working in community mental health services
  • Experience of undertaking cognitive testing/memory assessments
  • Experience of working with people who have complex physical health needs
Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • The ability to prioritise a demanding workload
Desirable
  • Experience of delivering 1:1 and/or group interventions
