This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist or CBT therapist Band 7 to join an experienced and dedicated Tier 3 multi-disciplinary CAMHS team.

CAMHS services within HPFT have a reputation as innovative and forward-thinking services, historically involved in the development of CAPA (Choice and Partnership Approach) as well as being an early pilot site for CYP-IAPT initiatives and more recently the i-THRIVE programme. The HPFT CAMHS services are under-going several service developments across the county.

As part of this transformation, there are excellent opportunities to access further training and support to develop professionally. The HPFT CAMHS service includes four community based 'tier 3' teams (North, South, East and West), a crisis assessment/treatment team (C-CATT), an Eating Disorder Team, an inpatient unit (Forest House), Home Treatment Team and a Targeted Team for looked after or adopted children.

CAMHS South is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist or CBT therapists who are passionate about working with young people and their families and would like to work within a friendly and supportive team. We welcome applicants with relevant qualification and professional registration.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide psychological assessment and treatment to young people and families presenting with severe and enduring mental health difficulties working within a CAPA (The Choice and Partnership Approach) and iThrive framework incorporating CYP IAPT principles.

The post-holder will provide specialist support, guidance and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non professional carers within community mental health services, primary care and other partner agencies.

The post-holder will work closely with the local and quadrant-wide psychologist teams, as well as a range of other psychological therapy colleagues within the service setting.

The post-holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures

The post-holder will utilise research skills for audit, teaching, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service

Job description Job responsibilities

  • The post-holder will provide psychological assessment and treatment including a range individual and family based psychological interventions. To be familiar with using routine outcome measures (ROMS) thoughtfully with families to monitor progress throughout treatment.
  • The post-holder will provide specialist support, guidance and consultation on clients psychological care to other multi-disciplinary professionals.
  • The post-holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures
  • The post-holder will utilise research skills for audit, teaching, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service

The role is clinic based and involves providing face to face assessment or CHOICE appointments, formulation and therapeutic interventions (Partnership work) to young people aged 0-18 and their families using a CAPA and CYP-IAPT framework. There are also opportunities to be involved in audit and research projects and service development.

We also have close connections with the Clinical Doctorate course at the University of Hertfordshire and have doctoral trainees on placement with our team. They will work alongside more senior psychologists, both within the team and county wide,who are committed to supporting professional development. They would attend regular county wide psychology meetings.

Successful candidates will be based in SOUTH CAMHS -Peace Childrens Centre, Watford/ Civic Offices, Borehamwood.

Person Specification KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Essential
  • Doctoral/Masters level training in clinical/counselling psychology, including specific models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies, with CBT as a specified modality and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS and current registration with HCPC or A registered qualification (e.g. in nursing, social work, occupational therapy) and further postgraduate qualification training in evidence based psychological therapies, including CBT, to at least Masters level (e.g IAPT CBT diploma) and significant experience working as a psychological therapy practitioner accredited with the BABCP- please include the details of your registration in your application.
  • Professional qualification degree level, which should include knowledge and application of research methodology
  • Additional specialist knowledge or training in psychological therapies including CBT
AREAS OF EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE Essential
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings, including at least 6 months clinical experience working in child and adolescent mental health services
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client presentations in young people aged 0-18s, presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing situations
