Main duties of the job

We are seeking nurses who are friendly, approachable, compassionate and motivated with good communication skills. If you are committed to providing person-centered care with a sound knowledge of best practices, this could be the opportunity for you.

Crane Ward- 18 bedded acute mental health female ward. One of the first wards in CNWL to achieve the AIMs accreditation. Dedicated to offering person centered individual care using the recovery model. Also received a rating of good from the CQC.

Our nurses work within our supportive nursing structure in developing and implementing assessments, treatments, and recovery-focused care for patients. You will receive ongoing support from your peers, ward/team manager, and matron. You will also receive individual supervision as well as support in reflective practice groups.

Band 5 nurses work closely with the people who use our services, their families, friends, and carers and play an important contribution in how people experience our services. Band 5 nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:keeping the people who use our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessmentsEnsuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and proceduresEnsuring the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering, and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process

We believe that the best health care is delivered by multidisciplinary teams working well together and in partnership with other teams and services to provide seamless care. Band 5 nurses work as part of a team and you will contribute to the success of the team by drawing support from more experienced nurses and other health professionals but also by supervising other staff and students nurses to ensure they are working to the standards which the people using our services deserve.

Person Specification Skills and Knowledge Essential
  • Able to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, present cases, take note of actions, update others in the team and use handover effectively. Speaking face to face but also by telephone and writing letters and reports.
  • Maintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records both electronic and handwritten which adhere to the CNWL policies
  • Able to talk to people about sensitive issues in a supportive manner but also challenge others assertively where necessary
  • Able to maintain electronic patient records and Use Microsoft Word for letter and report writing
  • You are expected to have the skills required to act as a professional, registered nurse and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Work well with other members of the team including communicating effectively, being kind and considerate, reliable and enthusiastic
  • Mentor, teach and support others in the team, Supervise others in the team
Experience Essential
  • Previous experience of working in an acute mental health service either as a band 5 nurse, a student nurse or health care assistant.
Education Essential
  • Registered Nurse Mental Health
  • Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines
Desirable
  • Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development
Other Essential
  • Able to work efficiently in the community
Attitudes, aptitudes & Personal characterisitics Essential
  • Caring for the people who use our services, their families and carers, and other staff
