An opportunity has arisen for the post of a Psychological Therapist/Clinical Psychologist (Band 7) within the Wigan Early Detection and Intervention Service. The post involves the provision of specialist psychological assessment and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for people aged 14-35 years, who are considered to be at high risk of developing psychosis, and people who are identified as experiencing their first episode of Bipolar disorder.

In this role, you will be working alongside other trained therapists providing CBT to clients within a primary care service.

Supervision will be provided both clinical and management. The post holder will also have opportunities for CPD, developing their own clinical skills as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or other psychologically informed interventions, working with clients age between 14 -35 who have been identified as 'at risk' of developing psychosis from the completion of the ComprehensiveAssessment of At-Risk Mental States (CAARMS) measure, and people who are identified as experiencing their first episode of Bipolar disorder.

The post holder will be part of a mental health service and, as such, will work within its co-ordinated framework.

The post holder will work within the procedures, protocols and guidelines for the Service.

The post holder will plan and organise their work schedule and tasks, having managerial and clinical supervision as the role demands.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder is primarily responsible for providing assessment/therapies to people assessed as 'at risk' of developing psychosis.

Although the post holder will be primarily responsible for providing psychological input to individual clients, they will function as an integral member of the team, and will on occasion support other tasks that will support us to provide the best possible service to our clients.

In conjunction with other psychological therapists working within the service, the post holder will contribute as appropriate to the provision of individual and group evidenced based interventions.

The post holder will contribute to the supervision and development of other staff.

The post holder will work within the policies, procedures and guidelines for the Wigan / Leigh Directorate and the EDIT Service.

The post holder will plan and organise their work schedule and tasks within the parameters of the Job Plan agreed with the Team Manager.

Person Specification Education / Qualifications Essential

• A degree/diploma (2:1 or above) in nursing, social work or occupational therapy and a specialist cognitive therapy qualification (e.g. PG Dip or MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy specialising in psychosis). OR No core profession but demonstrable experience of applying cognitive behavioural therapy as reflected in full, current BABCP accreditation and registration. OR A degree (2:1 or above) in psychology and a post graduate doctorate in clinical psychology (D Clin Psych).

Desirable

• Full training in Behavioural Family Intervention (Meriden model)

Experience - Essential

• oApplying cognitive therapy approaches to anxiety & depression disorders.
• oConducting high quality risk assessments and implementing risk management plans.
• oFormulating client's presenting problems using appropriate cognitive behavioural models, and using formulations to deliver interventions.
• oExperience of working with clients with emotional regulation and interpersonal difficulties.

Desirable

• o Specialist experience in early intervention for psychosis, cognitive therapy for psychosis and the prevention of psychosis (e.g. specialist placement, previous employment in the early intervention, or at risk service or participation in a related research trial).
• o Providing cognitive behaviour therapy for psychosis.
• oExperience of work with adolescents using an evidence based psychological approach.

Knowledge Essential

• oExtensive clinical knowledge of serious mental illness / psychosis and the application of cognitive behavioural therapy or other relevant form of psychological therapy to this client group.

Desirable

• oKnowledge of current psychological evidence base and best practice in working within client group.
• oA high level of knowledge about the evidence base for interventions for an At-Risk Mental State and the prevention of the development of serious mental health problems.
• oExperience in the use of psychosis-specific structured and semi-structured interviews (e.g. PANSS; CAARMS; PSYRATS)
• oKnowledge about applying and adapting cognitive behaviour therapy to adolescents.

• oSkills in the use of methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
• oWell developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical &/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.

• oAbility to evaluate the clinical efficacy of cognitive behavioural intervention and other relevant psychological therapies.
