This is an exciting opportunity for a clinical or counselling psychological therapist to develop their career further in a specialist inpatient multi-disciplinary setting dedicated to people who have an eating disorder. You will have responsibility for the day to day management and supervision of Psychological therapy staff on the Haldon, a 10 bedded in-patient unit.

Main duties of the job

The service particularly values the development of a psychologically-informed environment to support staff and clients and this post will be central to delivering this. You will work closely with the Haldon ward manager and other senior clinical staff and managers involved in the eating disorders pathway, overseeing governance, service developments and other leadership issues. You will also be one of a team of leads in psychology and psychological therapies within the specialist services directorate, where a strong network of professional support is available. The post will be supported via clinical supervision, line managed by the service manager of the Haldon Unit in conjunction with Professional Supervision from the consultant clinical psychologist / strategic lead in specialist services. Excellent links are established with the doctorate in clinical psychology training programmes at the Universities of Plymouth and Exeter where training placements and service related research opportunities are encouraged.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent), eligible for Chartered Clinical Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society / Psychological Therapist.
  • Or
  • Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology as accredited by the HCPC (or equivalent qualifications as assessed by the HCPC).
  • Or
  • Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (or equivalent as assessed by the HCPC).
  • Registered with HCPC/UKCP/BABCP/Other Specialist regulatory body
  • Further training or equivalent experience in working with adults with eating disorders and complex mental health needs
Desirable
  • Further training in specialist psychological therapies relevant to people with eating disorders
  • Further training in working with people who have experienced complex trauma
  • Further training in at least one psychological therapy
  • Training in models and approaches of reflective practice
Experience Essential
  • Substantial theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge in relation to the treatment of people with complex co-existing health needs (adults/young people) and clinical experience working with this client group
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
  • Experience of teaching and training
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision.
  • Experience in undertaking leadership roles within clinical psychology/psychological therapy services in the NHS and in contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies and clinical policies in multi disciplinary, multi agency contexts.
  • Experience, and/or training in diversity awareness and social inequality.
  • Experience of managing psychology and psychological therapies staff
