Band 5/6 Occupational Therapist (Golden Hello Included)
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and creative Band 5 or Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work within the Children's Home Adaptations Team, a specialist group within our our well established Occupational Therapy team.You will be joining an innovative and agile Children and Young People's Therapy (CYPT) Service committed to delivering high quality intervention and transforming lives.

Banding will be dependent on experience and will be discussed at interview.

This post attracts a 'Golden Hello' payment of £2000 (pro rata if applicable): 50% after 6 months (upon completion of successful probationary period) and a further 50% after 12 months in post. The Golden Hello is not applicable to internal candidates.
Main duties of the job

Children's Occupational Therapy is based on a 3 Tier model of service delivery, with provision at Universal, Targeted and Specialist tiers.

Our integrated service provides opportunities for collaborative working, joint training and shared learning amongst each profession. We work closely with colleagues in education, with well-established relationships.

The successful applicant will be expected to hold a 0-18 years caseload, providing Occupational Therapy in social care including knowledge and experience of minor and major housing adaptations.Ideally applicants should have post graduate experience/training in assessment and treatment using neuro-developmental and/or sensory treatment, and also some knowledge on housing adaptations. Support, mentoring and further training will be provided in areas where further up skilling and development is required.

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust provides integrated Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Services for families across the county. Our CYPT integrated service provides opportunities for collaborative working, joint training and shared learning amongst each profession. Our service is jointly commissioned by health, social care and education, allowing us to provide a seamless pathway of care for a child or young person at home, in clinic or in their educational setting.In this role you will work in a small specialist team of Occupational Therapists supporting home adaptations, with close collaboration with the integrated Occupational Therapy team, colleagues in social care and the housing sector

Successful candidates will need to be enthusiastic and motivated. Good communication, clinical reasoning and organisational skills are essential. You must be a team player but be able to work autonomously and have the ability to champion the needs of your patients. You must have an interest in developing skills within Social Care OT

  • Regular group supervision, managerial supervision and a well-established appraisal system
  • CPD opportunities, including in service masterclasses
  • Opportunities to develop leadership skills and to supervise less experienced members of staff
  • Opportunities to work alongside other therapists/assistants to deliver intervention to children/young people requiring specialist support
  • A initial induction period where you will have the opportunity to observe and shadow your team.
  • Support from the Childrens Home Adaptation Team to develop your skills through supervision and training

In addition to the basic salary, this post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary subject to a maximum payment of £1,915 per annum (pro rata where applicable and dependent on base location)

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential
  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered and compliant with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Evidence of Post graduate training/or equivalent experience relevant to speciality such as: Housing, Equipment
  • Member of BAOT

Desirable
  • Membership of Special Interest Group
  • Clinical Educators Qualification

Experience
Essential
  • Demonstrable post registration experience with some experience of working with children or in neurology
  • Experience and awareness of using a range of assessments and treatment methods
  • Presentation and teaching to staff team and other groups.

Desirable
  • Working in a community setting delivering children's Occupational Therapy Services
  • Demonstrable experience of working in the NHS

Skills & Abilities
Essential
  • The ability to analyse assessment results to formulate treatment plans, recommend suitable equipment and/or housing adaptations, taking into consideration client, social and environmental factors
  • Design and implementation of Occupational Therapy intervetnion tailored to the individual
  • Knowledge of equipment to be used at home to promote the child or young person's independence and support the needs of parents and carers within these settings

Desirable
  • Good general knowledge of normal child development
  • Sound understanding of child protection processes
  • Sound understanding of the process of statementing for special educational needs
