Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced clinical psychologist to lead in the delivery of a multidisciplinary team at the Veterans in Mind (ViM) service. This service consists of high intensity therapists, psychological wellbeing practitioners, recovery coordinators and administration support, and delivers high level interventions to military veterans in line with the clinical model in the Cheshire and Merseyside area (excluding Liverpool). Case formulation is at the heart of the work of the practitioner team in ViM. The successful candidate will lead workforce support and development through education and supervision in relation to working with military veterans. The successful candidate will also deliver clinical care to a small caseload of veterans. There will be many opportunities to develop specialist skills and interests in this and other related areas of work.

This post is a substantive position at 8b and for 0.3 WTE.

This service sits within the Health and Justice Division of the Specialist Services Care Group in GMMH. You will join a growing team of psychological practitioners in that Division and there will be many opportunities for training, support, and role development.

Person Specification Education/Qualification Essential
  • Good honours degree in psychology
  • Eligibility for graduate membership of BPS
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Post-graduate doctorate in clinical psychology as accredited by BPS
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist
  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist in a forensic inpatient/institutional setting
Desirable
  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams including non-NHS practitioners (e.g., with MAPPPs, with prison officers)
Knowledge Essential
  • Advanced skills in applying complex methods of psychological assessment, including risk assessment, formulation, intervention and management
Desirable
  • Approved training in structured professional judgement forms of risk assessments, such as the HCR-20 version 3
  • Approved training in a specific therapeutic approach such as mentalisation-based therapy (MBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) or cognitive analytic therapy (CAT)
Skills and Abilities Essential
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills, on both an oral and a written level
  • Evidence of consultation skills
  • Knowledge of legislation and its implication for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to detained/forensic clients
Desirable
  • Experience of teaching, training and supervising (clinical and line management supervision) other psychologists, clinical or forensic
Other Requirements Essential
  • The post-holder must be assessed by Occupational Health as having a level of physical fitness required to undertake the role and required essential training
