We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 8a Psychologist to join the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre on a full-time, permanent basis.

The post holder will be based within the Department of Paediatric Psychology within Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, but will be required to deliver services at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and other network centres across the region.

The East Midlands Congenital Heart Network works to bring clinical teams, managers, commissioners and patient/family representatives from across the region together to support patients of all ages with a congenital heart condition, and their families/carers.

The post sits within a team of Psychologists working with young people/families with CHD, with excellent links to national SIG groups. There are excellent research opportunities at a local and national level.

There are opportunities to supervise DClinPsy trainees, assistant psychologists and other medical and allied health professional colleagues. We have a strong ethos of continued professional development which includes regular clinical and safeguarding supervision, reflective practice, team care spaces and case discussion. There are opportunities for training including EMDR, ACT, and systemic working.

Main duties of the job

The post offers an exciting opportunity to join a well-established team of Psychologists working directly within medical multi-disciplinary teams at Leicester Children's Hospital, providing psychological assessment and interventions to children, young people and families who are living with complex long-term health needs.

Main duties of the role include;

  • Designing and delivering teaching and training packages to medical, nursing, local authority partners, and allied health professional colleagues across the Congenital Heart Network.
  • Psychological screening, assessment and treatment of young people and families with complex needs, including cognitive assessment and neurodevelopmental screening.
  • Contributing to audit, service evaluation and research with partners across the Congenital Heart Network.
  • Offering supervision and reflective practice to Trainee and Assistant Psychologists, as well as medical, nursing and allied health professional colleagues. Including offering debrief and reflective space to colleagues following challenging experiences.
  • Developing and improving pathways of care to meet the psychosocial needs of children, young people and families across the Congenital Heart Network. Responsible for service development regionally, adhering to national standards and policy, and driving change and improvements.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Training in clinical psychology to a doctoral standard or its equivalent as accredited by the HCPC.
  • Post qualification training and recorded CPD experience and/or further qualifications in one or more additional specialised areas of psychologicalpractice/ specialised psychological therapy
Desirable
  • Formal training in the supervision of other psychologists.
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients in a range of settings including inpatient, out-patients, community and primary care settings.
Desirable
  • Experience of working within a multi-cultural framework.
Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in highly complex cases.
  • Knowledge of research methodology, design and multivariate data analysis.
  • Knowledge of psychological theory including developmental theories, clinical psychometrics and two or more distinct psychological therapeutic approaches.
  • Highly developed skills and expertise in providing consultation and advice to other psychologists as well as other professionals.
  • Skills in the use of a range of psychological assessment strategies and the ability to integrate complex data from a variety of sources.
  • Skills in the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing a variety of complex technical and clinically sensitive information to a range of recipients.
  • The ability to employ strategies of clinical governance to support the development of good clinical practice.
