We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced clinical or counselling psychologist to join our small team of psychologists working with people with learning disabilities in Wiltshire. We work closely with psychiatry, the multi-disciplinary community team for people with learning disabilities (CTPLD) and the LD intensive team.

Working in a learning disability service means that you will draw on expertise from a range of theoretical orientations and interventions. Referrals are varied in nature and include: cognitive assessments; trauma work; neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric conditions (including autism spectrum disorders); dementia and neuro degenerative conditions; comorbid mental health difficulties; risk of harm to self or others, and offending behaviours. We will actively support you to develop any specialist interests you have in any of these domains.

We are a small specialist team and enjoy close working relationships with clinicians working with people with LD. We are also part of an active LD psychology special interest group within the Trust, and a large therapies group within specialised services.

We warmly welcome applications from psychologists who are recently qualified and will support your development through a 'Preceptorship' post, through to those who are ready to undertake an 8a position from the outset.

Main duties of the job

As part of the team, you would provide highly specialist neuropsychological/behavioural assessments, diagnosis, clinical formulations, therapeutic interventions and wider service support to prevent and reduce the incidence and impact of psychosocial/mental health difficulties. As well as direct work with people with learning disabilities, their families and service providers, you would provide consultation, at both an operational and strategic level, as well as clinical supervision and training for colleagues and trainees.

The importance of support and supervision for psychology staff is prioritised. There are opportunities for joint working and being part of a dynamic Trust wide CPD network for psychological therapy staff. You will be dually supported by a friendly and innovative team who meet on a monthly basis.

As a Perceptee Psychologist, you will commence at Band 7 and in conjunction with your supervisor will develop and progress through a structured development plan with review process, to support your transition to fulfilling competencies at Band 8a. Responsibilities of the role will adapt to match the developing skills of the successful candidate.
