You will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary SPA Team, offering referral screening, triage, and brief evidence-based interventions through psychoeducation, harm reduction advice and containment to children, young people, their family/carers, and other professionals.

You will be experienced in identifying emotional and mental health presentations and in the formulation and be able to delivery appropriate evidence based brief advice over the telephone, as well as identifying and responding to any safeguarding concerns.

You will work with a variety of agencies including social care, other health agencies, education/schools, acute hospitals, and adult mental health services to ensure a quality service is provided and support partnership working through offering children, young people and family's choice and flexibility in the service that they receive and promote the safety and welfare of service-users and their family.

You will enhance access to mental health service provision for CYP if clinically indicated to allow timely assessment, formulation, and evidence-based intervention within a multi-agency framework, whilst using the THRIVE framework to influence clinical decision making.

Maintain a professional attitude so to be a representative of the wider CAMHS service and be an inclusive team member.

Main duties of the job

Working autonomously as part of a busy team and be responsible for screening, triaging referrals and making clinical decisions around outcome of referrals. You will provide brief evidence-based intervention through psychoeducation, provide harm minimisation advice and containment to CYP, their family/carers, and other professionals.

Be responsible for networking and liaising with partner agencies & where required make safeguarding referrals. Participating in audits & the on-going service development.

Be a point of contact in the single point of access team; responding to calls that come into the team and returning calls as required.

Evaluate and make decisions on suitability of referrals, adhering to the services protocols and procedures, provide signposting advice and guidance around alternative service which would be best placed to meet the presenting needs at the current time.

Have excellent communication skills and be able to respond sensitively to difficulties and needs of the CYP, families and professionals.

Participate in multidisciplinary and team meetings, take part in service development, as well as work closely with other CAMHS teams.

Job responsibilities

To contribute to the CAMHS Single Point of Access (SPA) through core duties by screening new referrals, identifying and managing risk, liaising with other professionals, gathering more informtaion, providing psychoeducational information, chasing and gathering missing information, triaging referrals, making decisions, participate in MDT discussions and providing timely clinical responses.

Offer clinical triage, make recommendations, provide psychoeducation, advice and signposting whilst observing current best practice, legislation, and guidance

To offer consultation and advice through a range of initiatives to professionals with an aim of enhancing workforce skills, knowledge, and capacity in recognizing emotional/mental health and well-being needs and undertaking interventions with children and families to achieve positive outcomes.

Essential
  • Full UK driving licence and vehicle insured for business use is required for this post

Qualifications - Academic / Craft / Professional
Essential
  • Relevant Professional qualification e.g. RMN, RN, HV, OT, clinical psychology, Social Worker at degree level or higher; teaching qualification
  • Registration with relevant professional body

Desirable
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Qualification in therapeutic approaches with children and families e.g. CBT systemic, solution focused, play therapy

Experience
Essential
  • Proven post qualification experience
  • Experience of Multi agency work
  • Significant proven post education experience
  • Experience of mental health triage
  • Providing psychoeducation around a wide range of differing emotional and mental health needs
  • Proven ability to undertake accurate risk screening and provide harm reduction advice

Desirable
  • Evidence of the ability to use and provide clinical supervision
  • Community experience

Knowledge
Essential
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and documents pertaining to children (e.g. Children's Act, Mental Health Act, NSF, Every Child Matters, Future In Mind, THRIVE)
  • Knowledge and experience of provision of a holistic emotional/mental health assessment
  • Knowledge and experience of the provision of different models of therapy and interventions
  • Ability to maintain accurate case records in line with Trust policies and procedure
  • Ability to be an autonomous practitioner whilst being able to work as an integral part of a multi-agency team
  • Be committed to anti discriminatory/anti oppressive practice and equal opportunity

Desirable
  • Ability to use electronic data recording systems
  • Knowledge and application of behaviour programmes and support for parents of children with emotional health problems
  • Knowledge of currently available universal services and their offers of support

Skills
Essential
  • Skills and experience of working with children, young people and families around a range of emotional/mental health, behavioural and additional health or developmental needs.
  • Ability to triage presentation and acuity of emotional and mental health concerns and identify appropriate treatment pathways

Desirable
  • Providing clinical supervision and mentorship to junior staff
