I love working in CAIST for the difference we can make in a young person's and their family/carer's life, through their most difficult times. Come and join our award winning team!
Is your passion working creatively with children and families? Looking for a role with flexible working opportunities?

We are excited to offer the opportunity to join our Under 18's Crisis Service as either a Clinical or Forensic Psychologist supporting young people and their families across Norfolk and Waveney. This is an 8a position but we would welcome applications from current third year Trainee Clinical Psychologists due to qualify September 2023 on a band 7 to 8a preceptorship basis.

The team offers emergency assessment and community based intensive support to young people and their families who are experiencing a mental health crisis. CAIST aims to identify and reduce risks when children/&young people may be experiencing high levels of distress. We work hard to help people avoid in-patient hospital admission, and when required, to expedite safe and effective discharge.

When you join team CAIST, you can expect your role to be varied and diverse - no two days are ever the same! You'll be a valued and supported member of our multi-disciplinary team and will make a difference from day one.

Main duties of the job

Advances in training, clinical practice and research have widened the scope of interventions psychologists use when dealing with acute distress. The post holder will be expected to contribute to this expanding knowledge of 'what works' in a dynamic and evolving service. Despite the intensity of the work, it is brief in its duration since it is designed to help children, adolescents and families so that the stage that is 'crisis' can pass. Using the Thrive model, the CAIST team provide episodic care and plan for and support in the transfer for the 'what next'. You will be working closely alongside the Principal and Consultant Psychologist and will, in turn provide clinical supervision and support to the Assistant Psychologist and other members of the team as required. You will have the opportunity to work within a diverse multidisciplinary team, including Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy, providing a psychological perspective and dispersing up to date evidence-based knowledge through consultation, joint working and training.

We are looking for people with enthusiasm, optimism, fresh ideas and energy.

CAIST (Crisis, Assessment and Intensive Support Team) is a vibrant and dynamic service that has 3 teams based across Norfolk & Waveney and currently offers an 08.00 to 20.00 service, 7 days a week.

Diane Hull - NSNHSFT

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of specialist mental health services for the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, serving a population of 1.6 million people. We are a large organisation covering a wide geographical area divided into ‘Care Groups'. There are also Care Groups supporting children, family and young people’s services, and specialist services, including Forensic mental health services.

Each Care Group has its own Leadership team, with the aim of supporting clinically led decision making locally, to support the needs of people accessing services.

We have inpatient facilities across both counties with smaller bases in rural locations. Many of the Trust’s services are offered in the community, enabling people accessing services to receive the support they need in an environment familiar to them.

At NSFT we believe in recovery and wellbeing, and understand the importance of good physical health, maintaining relationships and achieving a balance between treatments and continuing an active life.

The people in our care, families and carers are at the centre of all aspects of all we do and are vital in helping shape and support our service strategy. Our strategy supports and enables people with mental health problems to live a fulfilling life and make their personal recovery journey.

Norfolk and Suffolk, in the East of England are some of the safest places to live in the UK, with low crime rates making it a community to be proud of. Housing prices are frequently cited as a reason to move here, as you get an incredible amount for your money compared with other major UK cities.
