We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our well established and dynamic Hospital Liaison Psychiatry service . This is a key role within the senior clinical team within the Liaison service. You will have a doctorate-level or equivalent BPS approved qualification in Clinical/Counselling psychology, with experience in a range of clinical settings, and will hold HCPC registration.

Main duties of the job

You would be responsible for offering high quality assessment and brief interventions with a specific focus on people in distress, related to both mental and physical health conditions. This is an exciting, varied role with opportunity for consultation, supervision of other practitioners, facilitation of reflective practice and teaching staff in the multi-disciplinary and hospital team .

You will have plenty of scope and support to develop your own practice, whilst supporting the team in balancing the challenges of providing flexible high quality services, in a way that delivers quick effective access and meets the expectations of patients, carers and the public.

Job description Job responsibilities

To be responsible for the systematic provision of Specialist Psychology Services to adults in distress with acute, complex, severe mental health difficulties entering the Hospital Liaison service (including those being seen in general hospital inpatient wards and A & E).

To undertake rapid, high quality direct (assessment and brief therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory and evaluative) specialist psychology interventions in this service taking substantial professional responsibility, prioritising work effectively and exercising autonomous judgement in their professional practice.

The setting for communication will often be highly emotive, requiring a very high level of interpersonal and communication skill, both verbally and in written communication, explaining, educating and influencing in innovative ways where necessary.

To educate, support and encourage awareness of psychological approaches and interventions within the MDT & staff of the wider general hospital.

To be an embedded member of the Liaison Multi-disciplinary Team providing outstanding CORE24 liaison services.

To ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and of service functioning by undertaking research and development activities relevant to the service area.

Desirable
  • previous A&E Liaison or long term conditions experience
