Applications are invited for the post of Junior Clinical Teaching Fellow in Medical Education.

This a full time post but may be undertaken less than full time with agreement of the Director of Medical Education. This post offers an exciting opportunity to become extensively involved in medical education in AWP for one year. It will also have a protected clinical component to allow the trainee to develop specific clinical skills during the year. The fellow will work with the Director of Medical Education, within a team of Teaching Fellows, and alongside the senior and extended faculty in AWP to promote excellence in medical education. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months commencing on 2nd August 2023 until 6th August 2024. The post holder will support the DME in implementing strategic initiatives in medical education, taking a lead role in identified projects around undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

This post is suitable for doctors who have completed their Foundation Training and are yet to enter further training.

Main duties of the job

The fellow will work with the Director of Medical Education, within a team of Teaching Fellows, and alongside the senior and extended faculty in AWP to promote excellence in medical education.

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months commencing on 4th August 2022 until 3rd August 2023 (subject to employment clearances).

Person Specification Qualification Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable
  • Evidence of qualification or experience in education
Eligibility Essential
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Recent Experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
  • Experience of teaching undergraduate medical students
  • Undertaken undergraduate medical training in English;
  • Have the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 6, Reading 6, Writing
Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • Competent in history taking and examination skills
  • Clear logical thinking showing an analytical/scientific approach
  • Appropriate defined level of clinical knowledge and clinical competence
  • Shows awareness of limitations and shows knowledge of evidence based practice

  • Able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS Essential
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues

CLINICAL GOVERNANCE Essential
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of clinical audit.

  • Evidence of experience of teaching medical students.

  • Exposure to different teaching methods
  • Knowledge of Foundation doctor curriculum.
RESEARCH AND AUDIT Essential
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of clinical audit and quality improvement and have an active interest in educational research

  • To have completed an audit project/ QIP in medical education
  • Publications on medical education, innovation and or research
