We are looking for motivated, qualified and registered professionals who hasexperience of working with children and young people, preferably within a community CAMHS service and/or significant experience within adult mental health services.

South Gloucestershire Local Authority are funding new Primary Mental Health Specialist (PMHS) roles which will be embedded within:

- North locality social care team based at Patchway Hub

- South locality social care team based at Kingswood Hub

- Central locality social care team based at Yate

- Access and Response Team (ART) based at Badminton Road

You will be able to state your preference/interest at interview for any of the above roles. Hybrid working will be an option for all roles. More details of teams in document attached.

Main duties of the job

The PMHS role is embedded within the LA team and will provide consultation to social care staff about young people with emotional and mental health needs, providing advice and support to upskill professionals to identify mental health needs and appropriately intervene. Some of these young people/families will require assessment and interventions from the post holder and are likely to require an assertive outreach approach to aid engagement. Other young people may be supported into the locality CAMHS team (for example those with eating disorders). The post will also provide training to social care staff and other professional working with children and young people.

You will be welcomed into an established and experienced Primary Mental Health Specialist team within South Gloucestershire and Bristol (including PMHS working in Bristol locality social care teams). You will also access support, training and regular supervision from the South Gloucestershire locality CAMHS team.

Job description Job responsibilities

  • To upskill and support social staff by providing specialist mental health consultation, training, advice, support, and liaison to staff working with children, young people and their parents/carers
  • To be link between CAMHS and social care services, providing referral information, support and guidance and signposting to appropriate services. To explore and help facilitate access to community CAMHS where access issues are difficult.
  • To assess and formulate the mental health, emotional and psychological needs of children and young people who are involved with South Gloucestershire Social Care
  • Provide an outreach model and systemic approach to help engage and provide intervention to children, young people and their families. To include, attending multi-agency meetings.
  • Provide mental health consultation and reflective sessions to Social Care practitioners
  • Provide mental health training to Social Care staff


Person Specification Qualification Essential
  • Professional qualification eg Nursing, Social Work, Family Therapy, Arts Therapies, OT, Psychology and Psychotherapy
  • Maintenance of appropriate professional registration (HCPC, NMC etc)
  • Formal post-graduate level qualification in a relevant field eg CYP-IAPT training, AMHP, CBT, Brief Therapy or can demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and expertise
Experience Essential
  • Post qualification of delivering evidence based therapies to young people and families in CAMHS
  • Significant post-qualifying clinical experience of working with multiple agencies
  • Experience of providing consultation and/or training to professionals
Desirable
  • Significiant post qualification experience in NHS CAMHS
Skills Essential
  • Ability to work with children, young people and families from a wide range of social, cultural and minority ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work autonomously, and organise and prioritise workload
  • .Experience of care co-ordinating complex cases
