The Community CAMHS Service within Nottinghamshire supports Children, Young People and their families where there are emotional and mental health needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a new and exciting Mental Health Support Team (MHST) within the Community CAMHS service, as a joint initiative between health and education.

Fixed term role for 3 years in the Bassetlaw MHST, with a view for the role becoming permanent.

We are looking to recruit a specialist practitioner to work within our project schools across various locality teams in Nottinghamshire County to deliver early intervention support and treatment within identified schools.

The MHST works closely with and alongside staff in education settings to support the mental health and wellbeing of young people, their families and teachers.

Main duties of the job

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is a new and evolving service which is available in certain schools in the Nottinghamshire areas. Nottinghamshire Healthcare have been a trailblazer site for the Mental Health Support Team project and have hosted the first operational MHST nationally in December 2019.

We are an early intervention wellbeing service aimed at providing support for children young people and families around low-level emotional wellbeing needs, such as anxiety, low mood, managing emotions, and sleep. We link in directly with Nottinghamshire CAMHS teams and provide 'in school' sessions to promote a positive mental health.

Job description
Job responsibilities

The role of the Specialist Practitioner within the area of the Nottinghamshire project will include one to one and group work. There will also be opportunity to develop the whole school approach and provide advice, guidance and support to staff in education.

The interventions delivered will be brief and focussed on early intervention.

The schools included in this project will have a designated Mental Health Lead, who can refer directly into the service. We work closely alongside these staff as we support them in creating a whole school approach to mental health.

You will work with a variety of agencies to ensure a quality service is provided. You will work alongside more junior members of the team, to deliver parent, well-being and 1:1 sessions. There will also be a duty element to the role, alongside facilitating drop-in sessions within schools.

You must be a Registered Nurse, Dip SW or equivalent social work qualification (CSS, CQSW, degree in social work), or Allied Health Professional registered with the HCPC.

You must also have experience of working therapeutically with children, young people and families where there are emotional difficulties within a CAMHS service. It is preferable if you have experience of working in this capacity within schools.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made as required in line with the Equality Act 2010.

The MHST cover the county of Nottinghamshire and have bases across the county, the main base for the team is at Highbury Hospital, Nottingham, NG6 9DR.

Qualifications
Essential

• Relevant Professional qualification e.g. RMN. RN, HV, OT, clinical psychology, Social Worker at degree level or higher; teaching qualification.
• Registration with relevant professional body.
• UK Driving License holder.

Desirable

• Educated to Degree level.
• Qualification in therapeutic approaches with children and families eg CBT systemic, solution focused, play therapy.

Experience
Essential

• Proven post qualification experience
• Experience of Multi agency work, in particular in schools
• Skills and experience of working with children, young people and families around a range of emotional/mental health, behavioural and additional health or developmental needs
• Experience of teaching groups of professionals and parents

Desirable

• Evidence of the ability to use and provide clinical supervision
• Community experience

Knowledge
Essential

• Knowledge and experience of provision of a holistic emotional/mental health assessment.
• Ability to manage a defined caseload if required.
• Organise and maintain own work schedule.
• Ability to maintain accurate case records in line with Trust policies and procedure.
• Ability to be an autonomous practitioner whilst being able to work as an integral part of a multi agency locality team.
• Ability to understand school processes and procedures and the challenges this may present for establishing a health service in a school setting

Desirable

• Ability to use electronic data recording systems.
• Knowledge and application of behaviour programmes and support for parents of children with emotional health problems.

Skills

• Ability to identify training needs and prepare and deliver training for teachers, young people and their families.
• Ability to offer individual and group therapeutic interventions.
