Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Psychiatric Liaison Services provide high quality mental health care to people in people in 5 district general hospitals across Surrey. (Guildford, Frimley, Chertsey, Redhill and Epsom).

To provide expert interventions and oversight to the care of people within the Acute General hospital pathway. To ensure that the care delivered is excellent and in keeping with the most up to date guidelines.

Support the growth and development of other members of the Liaison psychiatry team whilst supporting the service lead, manager and wider Trust to achieve an exemplary CORE24 service underpinning our visions and values. The role will include providing education, challenging stigma and actively supporting service improvement and development.

To put the experience of the person using the service at the centre of my decision making whilst building a supportive and responsive relationship with colleagues in the Acute Trust.

Using expertise and experience in mental health assessment, care planning, crisis management and partner working.

Main duties of the job

To work collaboratively with the service manager and MDT to develop outstanding liaison psychiatry services.

To engage staff and external partners positively and constructively, in line with the Trusts Clinical and Commercial strategy, supporting the Trusts Vision and Values

Ability to develop practical innovative and creative solutions to the clinical issues and complex problems

To act as a responsible member of the Liaison psychiatry team and accept responsibility for own performance and delivery of targets

To support the service manager in developing sustainable and improving services in line with national specifications.

To promote and introduce systems to continuously improve quality of care, drawing on national and trust guidance, in particular CQC

To promote and encourage multi-dimensional and multi-cultural aspects whilst ensuring parity of access and esteem

To support clinical improvement with a strong emphasis on integrated MDT working and the development of person centred care.

To ensure compliance with all statutory, financial, health & safety, employment, safeguarding requirements, including statutory and mandatory training

To attend external partnership meetings as required

To deputise for the service manager as required

To work as part of a rota across 24hrs, 7 days per week with flexibility to travelling across sites and services as required.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Clinical qualification at Diploma level or above in Mental Health nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Psychology with evidence of transferable mental health skills and practice. Registration with a registered body is essential. Post qualification training to degree level is desirable but not essential.
Experience Essential
  • Experience required Band 7 Sound experience of working with people with a variety of mental health issues for at least 5 years Demonstrable expertise in complex assessment of people with both mental and physical health issues Demonstrable ability to develop practical innovations and approaches to issues and complex problems. Proven ability to support Change management and Service Redesign In depth awareness of liaison psychiatry and National agendas for the development of liaison services Expertise and experience in supervision and supporting the growth of other staff. Proven ability to provide training and education regarding mental health and complex clinical topics Proven track record of building positive relationships with partner agencies.
