We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Locally employed doctor to join our award-winning Learning disability Service in Bury.

This post would be ideally suited for a doctor, who has a minimum of 1-2 years' experience in clinical practice and is interested working in a Trust grade position in psychiatry outside of a Training position (GAP year) to gain learning disability speciality clinical competences.

A successful candidate would have the option of continuing ongoing work in a Trust grade position or considering the option of applying for Speciality Training in Psychiatry in the future.

An alternative career path would be progression as a Trust Grade doctor and with the possibility of gaining a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) via Article 14 route once required experience can be evidenced in the future. Main duties of the job

The post holder will: Work within a multidisciplinary setting offering psychiatric medical input in the assessment, treatment and care management of patients, carrying out all general duties including mental state examinations. Provide up to date, effective, safe medical care for patients in order to promote their recovery, and promote their insight with a view to relapse prevention. Provide physical care in liaison with primary care services and GP services. Offer advice and support to other members of the team in issues related to his/her competence and expertise. Work as a leading member of the multidisciplinary team, linking closely with statutory and non-statutory services as required. Adhere to the Trust Clinical Leadership Model with senior clinicians delivery of care within the principle of holistic care. Adhere to all service conditions and local policies. Keep good records, communicate results of assessments to colleagues and write appropriate reports. Provide cross cover for clinical duties of aligned wards to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained when needed. Provide psychoeducation to patients, in conjunction with psychology, OT and pharmacy colleagues

This is a fulltime community job based in the Bury Integrated LD team, and you will work with a well-resourced multi-disciplinary team. You will have a dedicated office and IT access as well as facilities for remote working. There is exciting opportunity to undertake research and academic work with MMU university.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will provide psychiatric input to adults with learning disabilities of 18 years and older within the Bury area.

The post-holder will work under the supervision of a consultant psychiatrist and will be integral to a multidisciplinary team, accessing local CPD activities as appropriate. The post-holder will have the opportunity to rotate through different posts on a yearly basis according to service needs, offering opportunities for developing clinical expertise across a range of specialities. There will also be the opportunity to rotate to posts in Community Mental Health if this is of interest to you. Duties of the post 10 PAs

The Locally employed doctor will work closely with the consultant psychiatrist and Multi Disciplinary team, and will provide clinical support for the assessment and management of mental health problems on a routine and emergency basis.

On average 9 Programmed Activities per week will be devoted to Direct Clinical Care. Direct Clinical Care duties

  • Keep good records, communicate results of assessments to colleagues and write appropriate reports.
  • Provide cross cover for clinical duties of aligned areas to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained when needed.
  • Provide psychoeducation to patients, in conjunction with psychology, OT and pharmacy colleagues.
  • Support with preparing discharge summaries, and reports as needed under senior supervision.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives and take an active role in service development.
  • Participate in audit activities as part of maintaining and improving standards.
  • Receive regular supervision from the Consultant.
  • Keep up to date with CPD requirements and own professional development.

The post holder will be a key member of the team based at Windsor house Bury and will have access to clinical space . It is also expected that psychiatric assessment, advice and liaison will be given in a variety of community locations.
