Due to a promotion a wonderful opportunity has arisen for a new Head of Profession for Occupational Therapy to provide strategic, professional and clinical leadership across Oxleas whilst retaining an active clinical caseload. The post holder will represent Occupational Therapists at senior management level and the Allied Health Professions (AHP) Board, chair the Directorate Lead Occupational Therapy group and training panel ensuring representation at a strategic level in the organisation. In addition to this be the single point of contact for the profession representing Oxleas with Health Education England, South London Partnership, Higher Education Institutions, NHS England & Improvement, South East London Integrated Care System, Royal College of Occupational Therapists and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

The post holder will be responsible for leading on service delivery and clinical supervision of junior colleagues ensuring clinical governance with safe, responsive and effective specialist occupational therapy clinical interventions. As Head of Profession for Occupational Therapy the post holder will lead on workforce transformation programmes in Apprenticeships, Preceptorships, Clinical Placement Expansion, Return to Practice, International Recruitment and OT Support Workforce Development. In addition will deputise for the Trust Lead for Allied Health Professionals, as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for strategic and professional leadership delivering high quality Occupational Therapy across Oxleas
  • Key member of senior leadership team and lead on strategic developments and quality improvement initiatives
  • Provide professional leadership and clinical supervision of Occupational Therapists ensuring clinical governance in Oxleas
  • Actively manage a complex clinical caseload
  • Role will be divided between direct Occupational Therapy clinical care at 0.3WTE and strategic/professional leadership at 0.7WTE
  • Full member of the Directorate Senior Management Team, Allied Health Professions Board and Therapies Executive Committee
  • Lead on the development of best available evidence-based OT practice
  • Provide OT specific assessment and interventions related to: Self Care, Work and Leisure
  • Lead on service and policy development
  • Lead on research, audit activities and quality improvement projects
  • Contribute to and carry out risk assessment and risk management plans
  • Provide specialist OT advice to multi-professional teams
  • Ensure the supervision of OT students on clinical placement in Oxleas
  • Lead on strategic development of Trust wide OT service as a chair of the Directorate Lead Occupational Therapy group
  • Lead on Occupational Therapy workforce transformation programmes in Apprenticeships, Preceptorships, Clinical Placement Expansion, Return to Practice and Support Workforce Development
  • Deputise for Trust Lead for Allied Health Professionals

  • Contribute to the Trust clinical governance agenda
  • Advise the Trust Lead for Allied Health Professionals on issues related to the management and delivery of the Occupational Therapy service within the Trust
  • Lead on Occupational Therapy workforce transformation programmes in Apprenticeships, Preceptorships, Clinical Placement Expansion, Return to Practice and Support Workforce Development
  • Deputise for Trust Lead for Allied Health Professionals as appropriate


Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • HCPC registration and MSc

  • Extensive professional leadership experience working in partnership with statutory/non statutory organisations
Clinical Essential
  • Active clinical caseload and provide clinical supervision to junior staff
