An opportunity has arisen for a newly qualified dietitian to join Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust working within the community learning disability service.
You will work closely within our small team of dietitians provided evidence based nutritional care for our clients with learning disability within the dysphagia pathway.
Experience of working with clients with learning disability is not essential but may stand you in good stead in this rewarding area of dietetics.
The successful candidate will receive up to £120 towards their registration fee, which will be paid upon commencement. This payment will be subject to tax and national insurance deductions.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work with adults with learning disabilities within the dysphagia pathway to meet a variety of different nutritional needs including nutrition support, weight management, bowel health management, fluid intake and other health diagnoses with a nutritional status implication i.e. diabetes, coeliac disease etc. As such you will gain experience in a wide range of dietetic areas.
HPFT works with the University of Hertfordshire to support student placements and there will be an opportunity for you to support these students to succeed in their degree. There are other numerous opportunities for professional development.
You will be based either at The Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead or Colne House, Watford but there will be times travel further afield is necessary to meet the needs of the service. It is essential the successful applicant has a full UK driving license and access to a car.

- BSc Nutrition & Dietetics degree or equivalent
- Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
- Member of British Dietetic Association
- Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities
- Specialist knowledge and application of dietetic assessments and interventions
- Range of clinical experience and ability to demonstrate application of clinical skills
- Evidence of CPD and commitment to life-long learning
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary health care setting
- Post registration experience in a relevant clinical setting
- Experience of delivering care to service users with dysphagia living in the community
- Experience of supervising students
- Clear communication through written, verbal and non-verbal modes
- Experience of delivering training
- Evidence of behavior change/motivational interviewing techniques to support dietetic intervention
- Broad knowledge of current evidenced based best practice in learning disability, mental health and dietetics
- Planning and co-ordination of treatment packages
- Ability to use problem solving techniques
- Applied knowledge and risk assessment and management
- Computer literacy
- Basic word processing skills
- Car driver essential, or access to a car (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 which prevents you from driving).
