This appointment is for one (1) full time Clinical Fellow to work in our Burbage Ward, for a fixed term of 12 months. This post is being offered to cover gaps in the regional psychiatry training scheme.
This role of a Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry is not a recognised training post, but the Trust is committed to supporting development in a vibrant teaching environment. This post is attractive for doctors who have completed their foundation training and are looking for experience in psychiatry before committing to a career path, and for doctors who have completed their Core training in psychiatry and are looking for additional experience to pass their exams or to commit to higher training in psychiatry. The post holder will have access to the Trust appraisal scheme and e-portfolio for GMC revalidation.
Main duties of the job
The post offers opportunities for experience in Acute Inpatient Services in Sheffield. It reflects Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust's commitment to developing high quality services for patients with severe mental health disorders, and its commitment to excellence in the provision of acute care.
The successful applicant will have office accommodation, with IT support for e-mail, intranet and internet and secretarial support there. Medical tasks for the service are overseen by two senior clinicians (Dr N Lekka and Dr M Burke).

The post holder will have the opportunity to attend ward team meetings & offer medical input to the MDT, to participate in medical/psychiatric assessments for care planning and risk assessment, and to contribute to administrative tasks necessary for clinical responsibilities. Types of assessments include history taking, mental state examination and physical examination of inpatients. Treatments may be physical, pharmacological, psychological, and social as appropriate.
Additional to daily clinical supervision, one hour per week will be provided for personal supervision. The content will be decided by mutual agreement. There is an educational programme of weekly training events on Wednesdays am. The post holder will be encouraged to conduct a Quality Improvement Project (QIP) or Audit.

- Knowledge of UK health systems, practices and values; awareness of current issues in the NHS
- Computer literate
